Default Could the DVD Forum endorse Blu-ray!

I think there could be A chance that the DVD forum will decide to endorse blu-ray. The DVD forum could have signed A contract with the BDA last week...but you never know. This would be the Very Major thing that will allow us get all Studios and all Retaillers to make there move

Bluray is not yet ready to make itself a standard yet. Plus i don't think dvd is about to jump into bed with bluray.

Which would shorten it's life.

Bluray will have it's own forum in my appion.

In an ideal world it would be nice but money talks and dvd still is very big money

What would be the purpose exactly?

The whole idea of "endorsing" a format is a joke. Both the DVD Forum and the BDA are just standards groups that handle licensing, logo'ing, standards adoption, and (to an extent) marketing. DVD Forum does this for DVD... and BDA does this for Blu-ray. What would be the purpose of DVD Forum "endorsing" Blu-ray? Any "deal" would just be Toshiba getting some of their IP adopted into the Blu-ray IP mix.

It's not going to happen. The might have or could be is just rumor talk. DVD and Blu Ray are now going to be competing head to head as formats. The studios will be the one's making the decisions and we know that S-DVD is on the decline so they will have to push BR.

The next chapter is about to begin.

I don't think downloads are going any where fast. So bluray has not got much to worry about.

Once HD-DVD get's a grip and pulls the plug

everything is going blu

this is what i've heard. the dvd forum's board of directors included the hd dvd gang for the most part... which is why it got accepted as their standard... and as it happens these seats will be up for voting on a meeting 7th february

However BDA is pretty much the same thing as dvd forum

The DVD Forum is irrelevant today. They did a great job of getting DVD up and going, but they blew it on the writable formats (pretending the + formats didn't exist until a few weeks ago) and then completely blew it on HD DVD.

So at this point DVD is declining, and HD DVD, a dead format, is the official successor to DVD according to the DVD Forum. I think it's safe to start ignoring them now.

legal precision : DVDforum did not participate in the technical elaboration and manufacturing steps of DVD, they just decided it was a valid format for customer adoption, BDA was there from step one, just not a bunch of lazy old twarts getting the praises
