Default Lollipop Chainsaw Remake

Announced by publisher Dragami Games – which is led by the original game's producer, Yoshimi Yasuda – the game will arrive worldwide next year, although a formal title or platforms have not yet been announced. It will be developed by "a combination of development staff from the original version, including Yasuda as producer, and new development staff from Dragami Games."

Would have preferred a sequel or at least a remaster for modern consoles. Heck even just a port would have been nice.

Too bad the copyrighted songs are gone. Will they even have the same voice actors or will even be the same game.

I doubt James Gunn will be involved.

That entirely depends on what they mean by "Remake". Are they redoing the story or are they just going to reconstruct the game beat for beat with updated graphics like Spyro and Crash, or hell like Last of Us Part 1 did? Won't know until next year.

The director mentioned “a more realistic approach to the graphics” and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Modern rendering techniques couldn’t hurt, but I like the look and style of the original. Oh well, cautiously optimistic.

I suppose the licensed music is one of the things that prevented this game from being added to PS+ or going backwards compatible on Xbox. Even with the remake, I’d absolutely love to play the original version on modern consoles.

Meh, I already own and played the original. Will pass. If this was a sequel, I'd be more interested.

They better get at least *some* of the licensed soundtrack back.

They better keep the original voices, Juliet's original design, the outfits, and some game mechanics.

Hopefully they improve some game mechanics, add some quality of life changes, get rid of zombie baseball(or at least make it fun)....to be honest I didn't care for any of the mini games.

No James Gunn And Suda51 Are Not Involved With The Remake

Quote:
American screenwriter and director James Gunn, as well as Grasshopper Manufacture founder Suda51 clarified that they will not be working on the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw remake. This means that while publisher Dragami Games’ effort involves development staff that worked on the original release of Lollipop Chainsaw, some key writers and creators from that time will not be part of the remake’s development.

News of the remake’s development came a few weeks after Dragami Games CEO Yoshimi Yasuda teased a revival back in June 2022. The announcement revealed a tentative 2023 release window, though details were still relatively scarce. However, Yasuda also stated that the “original staff” would be working on the remake, albeit with some elements that were “different from the original”.

Speculation within the fan community and through news coverage led James Gunn, one of the writers of the original Lollipop Chainsaw, to clarify that he was not part of the remake. In a quote tweet, Gunn stated that Dragami Games did not approach him or Suda to work on the project. Furthermore, he had only heard of the remake from Suda a few weeks prior. However, Gunn also expressed that this was neither a condemnation nor an endorsement of the remake.

James Gunn: To answer the question in the article, neither I nor @suda_51 are currently involved in this. I heard about it for the first time from Suda a couple weeks ago.

Suda later followed up with his own post, adding that Grasshopper Manufacture was also not part of the remake’s development. This is noteworthy, as the original Lollipop Chainsaw was a joint development project between Grasshopper Manufacture and the team at Kadokawa Games, which eventually split off into Dragami Games.

Suda51: To add my two cents, like @JamesGunn says, neither he nor I am involved in this project at all, and Grasshopper Manufacture has nothing to do with development or anything.

The Lollipop Chainsaw remake is in development at Dragami Games and has a tentative 2023 release window. There is no confirmed price or release platform.

Why would he be involved? the story is already written, this will probably be a faithful remake, with different music

Well it’s not 100% faithful. But I think the bigger surprise is not having Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture not being on it.

The real question is why this splinter company got the rights to begin with. I mean wasn't this game one of their best sellers? Though it was strange they refused to make a sequel.

As basically mentioned in the article I posted in the PS3/Xbox 360 version thread, Kadokawa Games abandoned the series and just sat on it after their previous CEO left the company. So now that previous Kadokawa Games CEO is working with Dragami Games and Warner Brothers to make sure the series is back.

I liked the original pretty well, though I remember the controls not being as fluid as I would've liked them to be. I'll keep my eye on this, but I doubt I'd end up playing this remake.

I guess they didn't want to create a sequel with a new story, characters and setting, so they are just remaking the same game like many others... I did hear good things about the gameplay being fun for the most part.

As I have said before, a sequel would have made more sense.

A sequel could still happen if this does well. It’s just that whole it might be No Suda51 and James Gunn being involved.

I still find it strange they don't have any of the game's dialog in the trailer.

I hope it will remain uncensored, it is good, sells well, and opens the door for a sequel.
