My point is before I spend $25,0000-$100,000+ on an 8K projector or 8K flat panel I want to make sure the consumer electronics industry is not going to require something like HDCP 3.3 for 8K content. Sure, the first generation 8K flat panels with a firmware update will most likely one day be able to use an 8K Netflix app or 8K VUDU app, but I am waiting to see what the industry decides to do with the HDMI port in regards to what version of HDCP will be required for native 8K content. Sure I could buy a 88 inch flat panel for $25,000 and sell it in 4 year in the year 2026 if the industry decides to require something more then HDCP 2.2 or 2.3, but I like keeping my display for at least 10 years. My point is these 8K displays are for earlier adopters that want to bet the industry will use the existing HDCP standard for 8K content and not require a new version of HDCP when connecting a native 8K external device in 2026+. The latest version of HDCP is 2.3, but who knows someone could invent HDCP 3.3 for 8K external devices that in theory could appear on the market in 2026+. The 8K HDR standard is set for the next decade if not longer.
We have a lot of native 8K HDR content on YouTube available now. I shot my son's weeding in native 8K with a new 8K camera and the 8K HDR video and still images are stunning when displayed on our 8K TVs. HDCP is the copyright protection flag to does the handshaking to ensure it the content has the HDCP copyright code. Also the 8K TVs have very powerful processing with extra memory that is specifically designed for 8K up-conversion. Hope to see some of our Blu-ray.com friends stop by our showroom to see these new 8K HDR TVs from Sony, LG, and Samsung. |

It definitely looked better than all the other LCD TVs on display. Also, the build “quality” on these panels is the best I’ve seen. |

I've been going with LG for 3 gene's now and considered OLED my next tv I'd save for once 8K media came out since I just got a new one in 2020 and see no reason to upgrade until 8K( hopefully 16 bit) is out. My brother just bought an 83 or 85 inch 4K micro led from Samsung cuz he was told by Best Buy Magnolia employees it does better with direct sunlight on the screen( which is an inevitability as to where it has to go but I always thought Dolby Vision looks so much better than HDR10 & my tv supports HDR10+ But Amazon is the only major streamer to support HDR10+. I only plan to upgrade if/when 8K tv & media is out w/enough content & hopefully 12-16 bit color is added. I have 300mbps internet, so will never have a problem streaming at max quality available & learned my lesson they I'm only buying movies when it's something I love. It's more economical to rent it 3x than buy it once & there's about 20 movies that I'd watch more than that ( Pulp Fiction, Shawshank, etc). I have come to the conclusion that the 90s is as far back as I can go( exceptions obviously) with movies or the source material is not good enough once scanned at 4K to look good enough to justify upgrade.is micro led better for bright rooms vs oled?

Holla when the 88 LG is $2,500. Yes, $2,500. In 10 years when my PC can easily run games in 8K I will get one, and by then retail price for something better will probably be like $5-7k. I can wait a year after that for the fire sale, and by then I might actually need to replace one of my TVs.
![]() If I were rich like 1080P tho, I'd get one now, but I imagine rich folk don't get rich by making poor purchasing decisions like this, unless they were born into it. |

Is a further price reduction likely on the Z3 panels this year? Would love for the 88" to hit the $10k price point. What will this be, the Z series' 5th year in existence? Was there a Z8?? I believe there was Z9, ZX, Z1 (not offered in North America I don't think), Z2 and now Z3 and the 88" started at what $30k when 1st introduced??

hopefully these continue on the downward pricing trend. They have been around long enough now but I guess with no 8k competition in OLED, perhaps why should they from LG's point of view. I don't think these have ever been mass produced, just made when ordered?? Aside from LG I believe only Bang & Olufsen offered another 8K OLED for sale which was obviously an LG Display panel, I can't remember if they went with the 77" or 88" panel but the price compared to LG probably would have made the LG look cheap.

Any indication of LG using MLA in their Z3 panels? I believe LG is referring to the tech as META. My understanding from CES coverage LG will include it on the 55", 65" & 77" G3 panels but not on the 83" and 97". So based on this it's possible the Z3 will not get it at all and if so possibly only the 77Z3. Panasonic seems to be only using it on their 55" and 65" panels electing not to include on the 77" model.
