It looks like either a Denon or Marantz UHD BD Player is forthcoming.
I really hope so! Denon was my favourite DVD player manufacture. Vincent Teoh tweeted this: "Finally, dropped by a Denon shindig expertly hosted by @nouscomms, & heard plenty of Denon AV gear which sounded great standalone or paired up with @BowersWilkins speakers & Panasonic UB9000 in different zones. Also saw a super-premium upcoming product under embargo… can't wait!" Last edited by kristoffer; 07-09-2022 at 08:10 AM. |

Denon and Marantz have always made quality stuff. So any UHD player should be really good.

My guess would be a soundbar to compete with the Sonos Arc priced over $1K. |

How do you know what Vincent cares about? For all we know he is interested in the premium soundbar space, e.g., Sennheiser and Sonos, or on point, because Denon is excited about the product, so he's obligated to be excited about it in a public forum. That's how the world works. The bottom line for me is why would Denon feature the top of the line Panasonic at the same event as their own super-premium disc player, albeit under embargo? To your point, only Denon knows. In fairness, I guess stranger things have happened. In my opinion, the premium UHD market is table scraps for Denon, just as it was for Oppo, which is why they pulled out. If I were in their shoes, I would have an answer for the Sonos Arc, because that segment of their business is the main course. |

I believe many of those Denon DVD and BD players were rebadged Panasonics or OEMed by Matsushita with some better shells and specialized FW. I remember the one of the Panasonic clones that Denon used featured the DCDi logo on the faceplate but the Panasonic counterpart did not even though the DCDi chipset was in the Panny as well.
If Denon releases a player I would expect a 820 or a 9000 clone at higher prices. Just my $0.02. Last edited by Tok; 07-13-2022 at 08:05 PM. |

That makes absolutely no sense at all. Just because that's who they're owned by, doesn't mean they don't continue to function as audio brands that ya know, manufacture and sell audio gear for money.

Maybe? But history has shown that these type of acquisitions never lead to anything good.

AVRs are becoming relics. Those of us with multiple components and full surround sound setups (5.1 and higher) are a shrinking segment. Most people are opting to use soundbars.
Fewer options and manufacturers… won’t go away completely but expect higher prices and it to be more of a niche market. |

Folks that use soundbars are typically space limited, want a significantly simplified set-up or aren't big HT fans to begin with. Also interesting seeing as how I've experienced folks diving into set-up expansion with the advent of Atmos.
![]() As far as "relics," so were turntables a while back and we see how that went. Same with software in the form of the CD, it made a sizable surge/comeback during the past few pandemic years. One must also look to the scarcity of chips/processors during recent pandemic years as a reason for companies scaling back on their product line. If they were as abundant as they were even four years ago, I bet you'd still see significant product line offerings. Ebbs and flows. |

And you might say, "well, there you are: Denon makes a turntable." And you're right. They make like four of them. But that's a market they've been in for decades; I don't know how much you can compare that to a UHD-BD market they haven't been in at all. |
