Apparently, the Universal Blu-ray will have the film's Dolby Atmos audio, according to UPHE Germany, who will also have a German: Dolby Atmos dub track.

Are you talking about the 4K BD or the BD? And do you have any link to that info?

The Blu-ray:

As far as I know, Universal have no 4K UHD planned for any of their territories.

Ok, well this thread is for the 4K BD on the Nordic Market, so the BD is N/A. Still not known what company will be releasing the 4K BD on the Nordic Market. Hopefully we'll know soon.

Looks like it's SF Studios, release fall 2022.

It's possible Universal might release a UHD later on, like they did with Get Out. Although that happened quite a few years ago so I'm not sure if it's a strategy they'd still use.

As for Atmos, House of Gucci had it only on the UK and DE editions while the rest were DTS HD MA 7.1.

Thanks! I think the production of the 4K BD will be done by Universal though, since on the page you linked to it says:

"RELEASE: Hösten 2022 - Universal"

Usually it's like that with SF Studio releases on 4K BD, i.e. SF Studios is just distributing them on the Nordic market. For rare cases when they make their own 4K BD they seem to list it as for e.g Copshop which says "SF Studios" in the release specification:

"RELEASE: 4 feb. 2022 - SF Studios"

Possibly this could mean that Universal will be releasing the 4K BD of The Black Phone on other markets than the Nordic one too.

I've been very perplexed by recent decisions to not produce 4K UHD of this, X, and Men in the US.

I watched The Black Phone last night, and I love it! I will definitely import this.

Looks like it will be DVD/Blu-ray only from SF.

Yeah, looks like it's been changed, since it no longer says 4K here:

Why is this not coming out to 4K? I was planning to blind buy it, but I'm not buying a new movie on BD.

It's perplexing to be sure. I'd understand if it was originally planned but got cancelled after the movie flopped, but in this case the movie did pretty well in theaters. Maybe if the Blu-ray sells well Universal will change its mind and release this?

Considering the junk Universal is releasing lately I don't think box office performance had anything to do with it. Looking at the trailer, not sure how HDR could've changed the look of the movie. Maybe they were just happy with how the bd is and didn't want to expand on it.

I do prefer this in HDR (I compared the streaming with the bluray) but at least the bluray still looks good.
