Sidekicks 4K Blu-ray

Dreams can come true!

I’ve mentioned this favourite of mine tons of times on the forum and always hoped, but never believed, that we would get a solid on disc release.

Until now…..

Sidekicks is finally coming to 4K and/or Blu Ray

Just been doing some digging and came across this on the Gorilla Pictures website. They are advertising Sidekicks as now being in 4K UHD to celebrate the movies 30th anniversary!!

Although no official date has been given for a 4K or Blu, it’s obvious that one is coming. Based on it being for the 30th anniversary, we should be hearing an announcement in the coming weeks.

I’ve added the link to the new HD trailer below, which comes up with a Samuel Goldwyn films logo at the start. I’ve checked and MGM owned all media rights in 2018 and now Gorilla Pictures own all media rights since 2020 according to IMDB.

Gorilla Pictures also own all media rights to Red Sun Rising, which has just been announced by VS. You will also notice on the website that there is info and a trailer for Whatever It Takes, which was also released by Vinegar Syndrome not too long back. So basically, I am 99% sure that Vinegar Syndrome will be releasing this.

As a bonus, the Cynthia Rothrock flick Sworn To Justice is also now owned by Gorilla Pictures, so I would also expect a Blu of that one soon.

I’m used to watching this on VHS, but I think we can all agree that the new scan is a revelation based on the trailer.

You know, 4k won't hold Chuck... he's destined to be in 8k.
He can move more freely in there.

Yes but I presume they were waiting until the films 30th anniversary to release it, which we are now on.

Plus the fact Gorilla Pictures have now struck up a working relationship and licensed to VS with Red Sun Rising, which we didn’t know back then, it should be out very soon.

I've just received confirmation from Gorilla Pictures that Vinegar Syndrome are 100% releasing Sidekicks on 4K!

This has been released in Germany on BluRay few months ago: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Sidek...lu-ray/317763/

It was inevitable that a 4K disc was gonna happen sooner or later and here we are! Hope more Chuck Norris titles find their way to the format

I was giving up hope because some labels had made enquiries and it didn't go anywhere. Not only are we getting a release, but a release from one of, if not, the best label around.

I've said this many times today, and this will be in the 3rd thread, but I can't wait for this release. Especially HDR!

RIP Jonathan Brandis.
RIP Mako.

Hope it's stacked, too. Don't know how often the surviving cast participates in special features, but I have faith that VS will at least reach out to whoever they can! Maybe even an Aaron Norris commentary?

Oh snap, this was one of my childhood favorites. Hopefully they do up a nice set like The Beastmaster.

Real shame Jonathan and Mako are no longer with us. Considering this movie is one of Aaron Norris' favourites, I think a commentary and a good interview are solid bets.

I would be surprised if VS released a censored version. Pretty sure it will be unedited.

Well this was quite the surprise to see. I somehow saw this at my aunt's back in the 90's and it's been a "curious little pleasure" since. Just taken aback because of how much of a little niche movie it is and it never even got a Blu-ray or even a DVD in the U.S., I think.
