Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Quote:
Following a notable third quarter loss, Disney will be re-evaluating Fox's forthcoming film slate. The majority of films in various stages of development will be tossed, while Disney opts to turn its focus towards more established properties such as Avatar and Planet of the Apes.
During its quarterly shareholder call earlier today, Disney revealed that it posted a $170 million operating loss in its fiscal third quarter. Because of this, Disney has decided to revamp its Fox line-up, which means it will shutter projects along the way as it turns its focus towards franchise properties for the time being. Unsurprisingly, Avatar's planned sequels will go on as planned while Bob Iger, the Chief Executive Officer of Disney, also teased more Planet of the Apes films.
Regarding the changes to Fox properties in development, Iger explained that Disney is aiming to take the label “in a new direction, with an all new development slate that will focus on a select group of properties.”
It is worth noting that while the Avatar films have been in production for some time now, this marks the first official confirmation from Disney that it plans to move forward with more Planet of the Apes titles. Fox announced in April that it was moving ahead with more Apes films, along with additional Alien and Maze Runner films. However, it remains to be seen whether or not that statement still holds true for the latter two franchises.
