I had the new version of the Steam Mobile app downloaded from Google Play Store last weekend.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/...73512156647585 I have very mixed feelings about it tbh. The 1st thing you see in there is that if you want to talk with friends while using the chat option; you have to download a separate Steam Chat app from your mobile app store as well which is really ridiculous. The chat function worked really well in the old Steam mobile app. Why did Valve had to place it in a separate app. I don't really understand it at all. I also see there is no option to insert your pin number from the Steam Link app into the new Steam app when you try to pair your phone while you try to play a game on your PC or laptop. Was that option always available in the Steam Desktop client for your PC or laptop only? |

Yeah, you're definitely not alone — a lot of people are having mixed feelings about the new Steam Mobile app.
Splitting chat into its own app feels like a step backward for convenience. The old integrated chat was simple and worked fine. Valve said they wanted to “streamline” things by separating features, but honestly, for most users it just adds extra hassle. As for the Steam Link pairing — you're right. Previously, you could enter the PIN directly in the Steam Mobile app when pairing with your PC, but now that seems to be missing. From what I remember, PIN pairing was possible through both the desktop client and the mobile app, so it's strange to see that option gone. It might be a temporary oversight or a push to use Steam Link separately. |
