Default Cool promotional "hologram" for The Water Horse in Japan

I didn't see this posted under the search word hologram, so forgive me if this is old. It looks like Sony has been able to make a 15m hologram of Nessie. Could this be the future? By the way, not sure if this is real or not.

Wonder what this could mean for Blu ray, if anything.

It's not really a hologram... it's a video just projected onto water vapor. Since you can't really see the water vapor "screen", it looks more impressive than it really is. I don't imagine it's all that great for fine detail either!

It's neat, but really doesn't have anything to do with Blu-ray.

Pretty cool.

For Blu-ray nothing. Entertainmentwise, it probably means that the upgrade to outdoor entertainment will be Holograms. Indoor entertainment, will probably never replace the TV.
Now when Sony makes a Full Color hologram, then they might be going somewhere

I heard about a hologram technology around 1995, but it was different than this...

it was more for environment simulation than for images...

They used computer controlled fountains/some video projection to achieve it. It's not a hologram per se.

if only one day scientists can figure a way to suspend light in mid air. That Nessie demo was nice and all but not a true holo. Anything requiring some kind of a screen is not a true hologram IMO.

An example of what was done in the international Expo in Spain back in '92, using the same technology:

Nothing fancy, but very clever...
