Default Simpsons audio - uncompressed DTS only?!

I just bought the simpsons movie yesterday and popped it in only to discover there's no Dolby english, only uncompressed DTS. And im like. It seems like there forcing you to get True HD and i haven't been able to get an upgraded reciever yet. In conclusion, I just ended up taking it out not even finish watching it. The standard surround was far too horrible for my taste!

P.S. I was very angry because of this. I even lost a hour or two of sleep!

The DTS lossless contains a DTS 1.5 Mbps core that is said to be better than DD. I don't think Fox does Dolby TrueHD. When players improve or when the PS3 decodes DTS lossless, these issues will be long forgotten.

What do you mean by "standard surround"? Is your complaint that your receiver does not support DTS (like what is available on some DVDs) at all?

The "old" 1.5Mbps DTS track sounds fine on The Simpsons, FYI and is "proper audio."

To add to my previous comments, I've never been disappointed by Fox's audio. The 1.5Mbps 5.1 is outstanding. I do own quite a few Fox BDs.

like most, I can only decode the 1.5mb core - but I have to say, the DTS Core blows away any Dolby Digital track I've heard so far

A surround receiver with Dolby Digital decoding and no DTS would be a relic these days. It seems like around 1999 or 2000 just about any new 5.1 AV receiver supported both DD and DTS.

So you ran out to buy Blu-Rays, yet you couldnt update your receiver to something from at least 2002? Come on.

Yeah i understand that, but on regular DVD's DTS was far and away better than DD when available. Most people would have gone out and bought a receiver then.

Your player won't decode the DTS core and send it to your receiver as PCM?

If it won't decode DTS, I doubt it has HDMI which means he's stuck with downmix to PCM stereo. Yes?

Does your receiver has 5.1 analog inputs? You could decode in your player and send it that way unless the player is a PS3.

I hope you are saving up for a new receiver. I can't imagine having my PS3 hooked up to that old of a receiver, but my dad is like that. He has an older than dirt receiver, and I had to buy that one for him oh so many moons ago. he had never heard real 5.1 surround sound and when I bought him that receiver it just about blew his mind. It's one of those, if it ain't broke, why upgrade type situations. I think I am going to have to buy him a new receiver and give him my PS3 to get him to move up to HD movies. He has an amazing 1080p HDTV he just got, but is still using an old DVD/VHS combo player to watch stuff. Ugh. But I digress.

If you don't have the cash for a receiver right now, start saving up. They are only going to go down over time, but try to keep an eye on that Onkyo TX-SR605. I paid $399 for it, but I think Amazon had it the other day for $360 or something. That is the lowest I have seen it, but it will do just about everything you can think of for a decent price. I think that's the most bang for your buck you can get right now. Good luck.

Don't all Blu-Ray players decode DTS? I thought that was a requirement. Also, does your reciever have analog inputs? I seem to remember a lot of regular Dolby Digital recievers having analog inputs... or maybe that was Dolby Surround recievers that are 5.1 ready...

Yikes, I know you love movies and all but dont lose sleep over it bro. You can pick up a CHEAP reciever now adays that decodes DTS...but I wouldnt waste your time. Get a Onkyo 605 and call it a day, great bang for your buck if your on a budget!

yea pretty much. I think i just have the most outdated receiver on the planet, but my point was, it would have been nice to have DD on the simpsons movie. I really not looking forward to buying a receiver thats cost more than my PS3 im using it for. ya know what im sayin'
