Disney Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 3D Blu-ray (2023) [Region Free] READ FIRST POST

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 was only released on 3D Blu-ray in Japan. The 3D disc is only available in a combo pack together with the 4K and 2K 2D versions and all the discs are REGION FREE.

Deci note: Apparently this has been rescinded at the moment (Nov 2023) :

Please note that Amazon Japan sometimes do not want to ship this to certain locations so when that is the case you'll have to buy it elsewhere or use a reshipper.

As usual, there is an Amazon exclusive SteelBook and editions with various gubbins:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray with all gubbins

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray with posters

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray with mug

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray with keychain

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray Steelbook

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray Steelbook with all gubbins

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray Steelbook with posters

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray Steelbook with mug

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 4K + 3D Blu-ray Steelbook with keychain

Original post:
RealD posted the trailer for this movie on their social media, which means it is most likely getting a 3D release, as expected. Fingers crossed for more excellent 3D from James Gunn! Fingers double crossed that Disney Japan are still releasing 3D MovieNEX blurays in six months too!

No mention of 3D in the trailer, but hopefully that's just an oversight.

Sadly I’m getting to excited when I see these new 3D posts, it’s why I wish there was a separate 3D Blu ray section.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think RealD promote movies unless they’re going to be in 3D? Have they ever promoted a non-3D movie?

Considering the 3D heritage of this movie and the fact James Gunn seems to be a 3D ally, plus RealD promoting it, hopefully it’s guaranteed at this point.

I wonder if Gunn will press DC to revive 3d. I've not been impressed by the extended universe but if they embraced strong 3d things could get interesting.

Gunn is proud of the 3D experience in his Guardians films, but he’s talked about shooting The Suicide Squid for 2D, picking camera angles and moves that wouldn’t have worked as well in 3D.

I expect Gunn’s regime at DC will have a similar holistic approach. Some features in 3D, some not. Shazam films won’t be in 3D, given that’s the director’s stated preference. But I have a feeling Aquaman 2 will be in 3D, given that the first one appears to have been partly shot for it, at least moreso than the average DC flick.

With the new CEO of WB/Discovery I wouldn’t expect any 3D conversions at all going forward. Sounds like he’s gutting the place from the inside out.

I think you are correct in the near term. With Black Adam not having been released in 3D (which by certain shots, it looks like it was almost certainly set up for a 3D conversion), I wouldn't expect the current films from Shazam 2 to Aquaman 2 to the Flash being converted under the current management regime . . . unless one or more of the following occur: 1) Avatar 2 blows it out of the park in 3D receipts and rekindles the excitement for 3D as we all hope; 2) James Gunn significantly rekindles excitement for DC and the gross receipts rise significantly that make a 3D conversion more palatable in terms of cost and uptick in potential revenue to exceed that cost; and/or 3) as is currently anticipated, WB Discovery sells to Universal or another studio with deeper pockets. We'll see.

As an aside, I worked with James Gunn's Dad before his passing (his Mom and Dad also were featured in an Earth scene in Guardians Vol. 2 where Ego's stuff is taking over everything). His Dad told a story of how James got into comics. Apparently, James had no interest in reading books early on. But he liked TV cartoons and superhero stuff. So, his Dad bought a trunk that was full of vintage comic books for James' birthday or Christmas (I forget which). His Dad said, voila, that did the trick. James started to read comics, got over the hurdle in elementary school, and the rest his history. He was rightfully very proud of that and the rest of his kids. A great family here locally.

This one will probably need a MovieNex release.

And it looked decently strong too! Hard to say too much from a trailer, especially after Love and Thunder had a good trailer but weaker conversion, but it looks promising that the 3D on this could be on par with the first couple movies.

Agreed, caught the 3D trailer at my viewing of Avatar 2 last night and it looked fairly strong. Definitely high medium to strong, a return to form for the MCU (as did Ant-Man 3).

Agreed, the 3D in Guardians of the Galaxy 3's first 3D trailer is strong 3D for certain from the trailer before Avatar 2 3D.
James Gunn, who was in charge of deciding on the 3D impact for the first two films (GOTG2 with mostly strong 3D and an excellent 3D conversion, GOTG1 with medium to strong 3D), is also the director for this final GOTG3 film, so it's a good bet the 3D here represents the final film's 3D quality, at least for these shots in the trailer.

Got to see the trailer for this as well before The Way of Water, and that was also a solid 3D trailer. James Gunn is fabulous with 3D, although it's exactly the opposite with his management at DC, but I'm very much looking forward to watching this in 3D as well.

Having just again watched volume 2, I do very much hope the third will be released on 3D Blu-ray, even if it's only from either Australia or Japan.
