Default The Nameless (Los sin nombre; 1999) from Miramax/Echo Bridge, 2013

Couldn't find a thread dedicated to this film—I considered buying this back when it first came out, but didn't when I found out it (weirdly) only contained the English-dubbed audio without the original Spanish as an option. For years now, I've clung to the old DVD, which has both audio tracks. I am still baffled as to why Echo Bridge didn't bother porting both over. I have always found this film immensely scary.

Given that Paramount now owns the Miramax catalog, I wonder if they have the rights to this? I cannot imagine them putting it out though given that it would not be a big seller by any stretch of the imagination. I know that Filmax released it on Blu-ray in Spain. Does anyone own this by chance, and if so, does it have English subtitles included?

Edit: I did a little digging, and it looks like Filmax has released several different editions of this on Blu-ray in Spain, most recently in 2019. A special edition Blu-ray/DVD combination set was put out first in 2017, which, according to the back cover, has both the English and Spanish audio/subtitles. I found it on Amazon.es. It is region B though, but I have a region-unlocked Blu-ray player, so no issue there. There is a Spanish DVD retailer who has new copies of this edition available for 8 euros, which is cheap. Even with the international shipping (which costs much more than the Blu-ray itself), it totaled out to US$21. Needless to say, I just ordered it.

The Echo Bridge release is probably one of the worst Blu-ray Discs ever made.

There's a 5-disc/film Balaguero set with this on it, cost me about £20

I finally got my copy of the Filmax special edition Blu-ray/DVD set today from Spain (took about a month in transit). The picture quality is so-so. I compared it to some of the stills on here from the Echo Bridge release, and the color on the Filmax disc is much more dynamic and has more contrast; however, it's also quite dark/murky at times, to the point that things get washed out or lost. This is notable in a few scenes where some characters' darker hair gets obscured entirely in shadow. There is also a noticeable lack of grain—the PQ looks blocky at times and quite "digital" in appearance, lacking definition. Watchable, but not what I'd hoped for in a Blu-ray disc. Overall though, it is a minor step up from the Dimension DVD, as well as the Echo Bridge disc (at least from what I can discern from screen caps).

Also, despite the Blu-ray disc being labeled region B, I put it in my 4K player and it played with no issue—I am assuming it is not actually region-locked, or is at least A/B compatible.

There are a good number of bonus features, including a vintage making-of featurette (with English subtitles, to my surprise), as well as two short films by Balaguero, along with a Spanish-language commentary. I studied Spanish for four years in college, but I would need to do some serious brushing up to make sense of the commentary. I am sure there's something interesting stuff there. As I noted in my original post, my main draw for getting this was that it had the original audio with subtitles, whereas Echo Bridge's only contained the English dub, which is absurd.

Just got the cheapest version on Amazon since I had rewards points. If nothing else, I just want to add it to my Jaume Balaquero collection.

But here’s hoping that this movie gets a real Blu-ray release someday. Does Miramax still have the rights?
