For me anything that takes place at Christmas, even if it's not germane to the plot, is a Christmas movie. LW opens with Jingle Bell Rock over the opening credits, that definitely makes it a Christmas movie.

BUT! I do think they're fun movies to watch around the holidays, but Christmas isn't the central plot of the movie so I personally don't consider them Christmas movies.

There are two kinds of Christmas movies: Movies about Christmas, and movies that take place on or around the holiday of Christmas.

Lethal Weapon, like Die Hard, is the latter. Things become much less clear-cut with First Blood. The are some decorations in the police station, but that's it. No mention of the holiday. I get the impression that it may actually be post-Christmas, early in the new year, and there are just a few lingering decorations that haven't been taken down yet. So I consider Die Hard and Lethal Weapon Christmas movies, but not First Blood.

Loping these two together is disingenuous...one uses the season merely as window dressing (Lethal Weapon), while the other takes place entirely on Christmas Eve and maximizes it with copious songs, imagery, and boasts a central theme (familial reconciliation) common in many other Christmas movies.

So my answer is obviously, no, Lethal Weapon is not a Christmas movie, but Die Hard resoundingly is.
