Default Holiday in USA ..... Amazon.com?

i am selling my UK PS3 and buying a USA console,.. mainly for blu-ray playback.

me and the mrs are visiting New York for 3 nights in April, and was wanting to order a tonne of blu-rays off Amazon.com,... to be delivered to the hotel i am staying at.

how long would they take to deliver to a hotel in New York ... and what are my chances of timing it correctly for my stay there?

it is a 5* hotel, so i trust them to collect the delivery for me.

Amazon has different types of shipping that you can use to have it deliver. You can choose next day and it will be there. The only problem I can see is that the shipping address has to match the address on the C. Card unless you use the gift function.

I would order it before you leave because of the time difference you might be able to time it without have to pay next day shipping.

Unless they changed something, that is not correct. I once ordered something for the company I worked for and just had it deliverd there. Paid as usual with my own credit card on file with amazon. Address didn't match; it still worked.
They don't care where they send the order, as long as you pay ;-)

I could be wrong but I am sure they do some sort of address verication...

Well, I live over seas and they never verified my address other than shipping out my stuff.

As a side note, I can't verify my Paypal address either for the same reason (international restriction).

With most credit cards you list two addresses, your billing address and your shipping address.

Otherwise, how could you ever send people gifts.

With next day you should be fine. IIRC, some sites will deliver same day in Manhattan. I can't remember off the top of my head who. Try Barnes and Noble, Borders, Amazon, etc. to see.

Also make sure you call the hotel, let them know the date you're coming and that you're expecting a package be delivered to you. I did this when I visited Seattle and I shipped mysels some stuff to the hotel.

I have 4 different addresses that I ship to on Amazon.com. Most often, I ship to my friend in Ohio so I get free shipping, and she ships it on to me for next to nothing (compared to what Amazon charges to ship to Canada). Plus, she marks it as a gift so no worries of customs/duties. Not all of Amazon shipments to Canada come from within Canada.

As long as you put in the correct address for "billing" address, they could care less where you have it shipped.

DOnt they usually require you to enter a SHIPPING and BILLING adress? Thats how they check.

Usually most websites give you the option of checking a box that says "Use Billing adress as Shipping adress" so you dont necessarily have to fill it out twice.

But the actual shipping adress certainly does not need to match your billing adress.

Hey Yuzo,

Since it is a FIVE STAR hotel, order before you leave the UK and coordinate ahead of time with the hotel Concierge. Ship them to him/her and let them know to hold the package for you, per your reservation. They get paid to help with things of this nature so take advantage of it.

P.S. order a week ahead of time for 3rd day shipping so they are waiting on you when you arrive.

The worst I get is a call from the CC company confirming the address.

The address verification they do is for payment. The billing address for the Credit Card must match the billing address of your order. It's to aid in preventing fraud.

The shipping address doesn't matter at all, when it comes to paying. In the case of the OP, you'll be fine. As one other poster mentioned, just coordinate with the hotel's concierge prior to your stay. Make sure ou tip him/her too! I used to be friends with a concierge at a 5* hotel whose pay relied greatly on tips... Also, I'd buy at least 3-4 days in advance of your outbound flight to ensure your packages are waiting for you (as yet another poster mentioned...lots of smarties here )

If/when you order, be sure you already know the room number you will be in. It will save a lot of hassle. Also, give the same name to the hotel and shipping so they can match it to your room in case you can't get the room number before hand.
When I had a package shipped to me in Vegas, I forgot to tell the head desk but they just called me when it got there. They already had the room number on the package cause I knew what that was when I had the item shipped.
It worked very well. Just make sure you time it right. Amazon can delay it if an item is not in stock.

Exactly, you're not going to save any money, and you'll spend on shipping to make sure it gets there in time

Just go to Toys R us in time's square, or the Best Buy right there in midtown
