Unhappy Respected magazines recommending cheap HD-DVD players..

as DVD upconvertors. Surely this is not right (http://whathifi.com/forums/t/7239.aspx). I have not seen this months magazine but the editors have on a number of occassions recommended HD-DVD players are upconvertors. Surely this is only encouraging Toshiba to continue on with this and in the long term hurt mass adoption of HDM?

Not if retailers quit restocking the players.

If retailers are not restocking then fine but is that the case? I still find it hard to believe that they would still recommend people buy upconvert DVD players.

They may not have ceased restocking yet, but it's likely they will, and soon. Based on the thread title, the OP isn't about stores recommending purchase of upconverting players, but about someone at whathifi doing so. Can't get the specifics as the link is broken.

I stopped subscribing to mags. The reviews are outdated by months, both for electronics and movies. Upcoming products they talk about are known by the web community months in advance. Waste of paper.

Its the editor of the magazine recommending them as upconverts.
