Default Your Opinion on BLU-Ray Releases

Im New to Blu-ray and this site. I have been reading some of the reviews to some of the titles. and it seems like some of these studios are rushing to get their title to disc not matter how the transfer looks. Seems like they are doin it so they can re-release it all nice and pretty as they should do the 1st time.

Just wanted your thoughts on this.

Thanks to all.

There are very few who have doen this, that is why I read the reviews on this site 1st. but for the most part they are excellent. I am even to the point I cannot eve watch a SD anymore as they look horable! Do your home work before you buy and you will not get burnt.
My biggest proble is I have Blu-money burning holes in my pockets but I have gotten everything that is out that I want, I just want MORE..Is that wrong? if so I do not want to be right yet.

This really reminds me of when dvd first came out. Yes there were good transfers, but there were also some that looked like they almost came straight off the VHS. As time goes on, I'm sure that you will see more high quality releases.

It depends on the movie as well.New movies will have a better transfer than a movie that was released 3 or 4 years ago. Look at Training Day.... certain spots look grainy where as Cars or FF4 Silver surfer look amazing.

It's also dependent on the studio and what codecs they use. Disney and FOX titles are really good (In Fox's case, post-hiatus). Sony is up there too. Warner will catch up as soon as they completely drop HD-DVD.

I dont think the WB releases are very good at all, especially the older films. Watched Superman, horrible PQ!!! but on the same note Payback from Paramount looked awful as well.

I dont believe WB had much faith in the longevity of Blu-Ray when they first started releasing titles thats why they look like they are transferred straight from DVD and explains why there are so many mistakes.
IMO

I also go by the reviews on this forum but even the bad transfers that I've gotten in the past still look better than an upscaled dvd IMO

Fox is still using mpeg2 on new releases

I agree, some studios are really rushing and there is going to be plenty of "double dipping" in the future of Blu-ray.

You need to read blu reviews from multiple sites, amazon, hi-def digest, etc. and avg. out the opinions of others.

You should never take the opinion of one review/research of anything to come to an informed decision.

I've only been paying attention to the PQ/AQ aspect. I don't buy any movies that I've not actually seen(theater or dvd)

Same here. So, in almost every case, I'd still rather have the hi-def version rather than the SD one.

Doesn't have to be a bad thing. Some of the highly rated movies, PQ-wise, are mpeg-2. Kingdom of Heaven, A Few Good Men, and Pathfinder are a few examples.
