Talking Finally time to upgrade my home theater screen

My current tv is a 82" Samsung N8000 which works OK overall. I have been wanting to upgrade to an OLED(since the day I bought it ) but the prices for such a large size was always an issue.

I am looking at an 83" OLED however definitely concerned the new MLA tech is not in a screen that size for LG. I will wait until Sony announces their 2023 models as I hope they have a new 83" that pushes the current tech available.

I have been considering a few UST projectors as I think I can make that work in my space. I have seen pictures that look great however is there a model that can give me decent HDR presentation(dolby vision) with high contrast potential? I realize it will never be an OLED however I am weighing my options before I make a final choice.

Obviously UST projector will have the size advantage but I need to get away from the current blocky grey/bloom situations I have now.

Does anyone have a large OLED and a UST projector? Can the UST give a solid movie watching experience in a completely black room?

Thanks for the time.

I wouldn’t go with a UST as they usually have pretty low contrast ratios (raised blacks, less depth in image). I haven’t seen one so far that gets anywhere close to the better long-throw projectors from the likes of Sony and JVC.

83” in OLED for this year seems tricky. There wont be any 83” QD-OLEDs (the biggest panel size right now is 77”, and that just got announced for this year), and like you mentioned, MLA tech is limited to sizes 55” - 77”. LG 83” does seem like it’ll get brighter, but not as much as the ones with MLA tech.

Your best choice for 83” would be the LG G3, or waiting another year to see if LG includes MLA at those sizes, or if QD-OLED panels become available at 83” next year too.

If you really want to get an 83” this year, I would recommend the LG G3, or whatever new 83” OLED Sony announces.

Otherwise, going slightly lower to 77” seems like an option too for the G3 or the yet-to-be-announced QD-OLED from Sony. I would avoid miniLED in general unless you watch it in a room with a lot of ambient light (i.e. I’d much rather have a 77” OLED than an ~83” miniLED). The depth and contrast just don’t compare imo.

I hope all my current gear outlives me.

I can't stand the thought of having to purchase new shit - which in my case would be a cascade of required upgrades and new equipment.

Having to dick around with all the settings to get everything working with each component properly. Firmware updates, calls to support etc. etc.

I'm happy with everything currently. It works. Don't **** with it.
