Marantz's very first allocation of their new flagship CINEMA 40 9.4 125 Watts per channel A/V receiver has just shipped to our store.

Marantz's CINEMA 40 has a Premium 9.4 channel 125-watts-per-channel amplification, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Auro 3D, and 8K Ultra HD plus HEOS Built-in streaming. CINEMA 40 is a reference level A/V Receiver, and priced very reasonably at $3,499 MSRP.

Comparing the inside of a $3500 Marantz Cinema 40 to a $2500 Denon x4800h. If that is Marantz flagship, then the Denon is worth checking out also.

Comparable Denon and Marantz units share up to %55 of the same components while the rest is specific to each brand. So while similar in appearance differences can be marked!
Yeah the Cinema 40 is tops of the cinema line but is it the Marantz flagship when the SR8015 still graces the Marantz's website?

Both these new 2023 models are way better than what was before (show below). Look at the previous Marantz and Denon models using same 125 watt power ratings. First is Marantz SR7015, below it is Denon x4700. The Marantz 8015 was akin to Denon x6700h, both made in Japan. Both have been around 3 years and offer one 8k input path instead of all inputs being 8k capable. IMHO its looks like modern processors have greatly reduced the amounts of parts on CCAs we can see in a top down internal view compared to the older models. For a long time I saw AVRs becoming more densely packed as far as required electronic designs to do everything the AVRs were capable of. So the newest models are a refreshing change. BTW both 2023 models discussed in previous post are made in Japan compared to the older 2020 models made in Vietnam.

The Marantz is an inch deeper and higher, it weighs 4 pounds more. But the obvious trend I see is that both D&M products are using integrated processors to reduce circuitry count. Rather than make the AVRs look like they are crammed to the max with discrete parts. Ah progress. Just wait for the next D&M pair rated at 140 watts ch to show up.

Marantz is supposed to be a higher end A/V receiver when compared to the Denon and that is one of the reasons for the higher price. I do like how the Marantz A/V receivers are using the same style of knobs for input selection and volume that 100% of all the Pioneer Elite A/V receivers use. Those easy to use input and volume control knobs are a nice feature for people that do not want to hunt for the remote control in the room or someone visiting that has never used a A/V receiver and just wants to adjust the volume or change the input from Bu-ray to cable TV, etc.. Denon is also using the same style for volume and input selector knobs. I wish Yamaha would start using those knobs, since at least on the older Yamaha A/V receivers its more difficult for the average person to make those adjustments.

I wish Marantz had a 15.4 channel A/V receiver like the Denon AVR-A1H.

The transformer is little tiny

You want to see a serious transformer inside an AV receiver?

I need a new receiver pretty bad , Can you please recommend the best most powerful real rated (all channels) clean power receiver for under $2k . It's all my budget can afford ,

I'm so sick of my old Denon with no HDMI and not getting DTS Master Audio to properly hear all my blu-rays . Atmos a some point and DTS X ,

Right now I'm only 5.1 , Yes I have a long way to go . Stinks that I never got the Denon 6500 when it was only $1400 , Now everything is double the price and I do not believe the quality is doubled .A simple back panel like these new Marantz are so nice but looks like way out of my price range . The new McIntosh is even simpler . But at $7 , I guess not in my lifetime .

I'm no expert but have you looked into the new Sony lineup for 2023? Their STR-AV3000ES ($1700) looks very good. If you can stretch your budget slightly the STR-AZ5000ES ($2100) would be even better.

If you prefer to stay with Denon the AVC-X3800H at $1,700.00 should do great.

Perhaps you could get a quicker reply in the Emo Receiver or Pre Pro/Amplification threads? Seems this thread got a little off topic since its title references the Marantz Cinema 40.

If it matters, I too am looking at AVR's processors for around $2K or under. There are lots of choices out there, comes down to what is important to you and your equipment (or future upgrades).

I' spent a lot of time with Sony's new 2023 AZ ES Receivers and the AZ5000ES 11.2 channel 130 wats per channel is a very excellent high performance receiver.

Other than it's premium audio quality performance the new exclusive features are very useful and important with several new room set-up configurations now possible.

It's priced very reasonably at $2,099. all in and delivered, when considering against all other receivers in the high-end class and being an 11.2 130 watts per channel capable receiver.
