Default HDR10+ on 85" q80a Samsung??

Just got an 85" q80a and am trying to figure out how HDR10+ can be displayed. I have an OPPO 203, updated to support 10+ years ago. Denon x6400h receiver that OPPO is connected to and then of course goes to the q80a. I put Jaws UHD in, which has HDR 10+ encoded on the disc. The q80a is only showing me HDR in movie setting, not 10+. What am I missing in either the tv, or player?

Are you certain that the X6400H supports HDR10+? I'm not familiar with this site but a quick Google arguably confirms my first surmise:

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compar...on-avr-x6400h/

Perhaps it does not.

Try wiring the 203 directly to the Q80 and see what displays in the upper left-hand corner of the display right after the studio logo displays. I have the 203 (and a Q70). I see confirmation of what HDR flavor I'm getting very briefly and shortly after I first get picture from a UHD BD.

My Yamaha AVR isn't HDR10+ capable but I prefer to wire all three of my BD players through it first. So I just remember that whenever I get around to 1917, Alien, Widows or Hidden Figures, I have a quick re-wiring to do if I want the 10+.

Your AVR doesn't pass it.

Neither my AVR or the processor I got to replace it will pass HDR10+

This is how and why you buy new AVR/Processor.

Or run HDMI directly to the display if possible.

. . . Or if you don't want to use ARC, ride the 3D-inspired tech workaround coattails and use (the 203's) dual HDMI outputs.

No need to replace the AVR. At all.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I have to run it direct. I figured since all 3 supported DV, that 10+ was a given. Thanks again.

Just to confirm, swing back through and post when/if you get that lovely, rare "HDR10+" in the upper left-hand.

No. HDR10+ is Sammy's tech. Strap it down first so your head doesn't spin, then check out the Venn diagram for display HDR flavor support here. Although it doesn't contemplate AVRs, I found it instructive years ago when I first fell down this rabbit hole.

The direct to the tv did it. I am also able to still listen to the Atmos track through the receiver, which was key. Thanks again guys.

MODS please delete this thread..
