Is the Scream TV series canon to the franchise? - Blu-ray Forum

I’m caught up on Scream 1-4 and was wondering if the Scream TV series is a required watch before seeing Scream 5 & 6? Thanks for any help!

No, they're self contained and never mentioned in the movies.

I was going to give it a try years ago but took a look at the mask and never looked back

I didn't catch it in either of my showings, but I heard on a podcast with Radio Silence that the mask from the TV show is apparently in the shrine somewhere in 6. But I think it's there mainly as an easter egg, and not to acknowledge the events as canon.

It's a shame that the season the actual Ghostface mask was used in- season 3- ended up being the worst season.
