Celebrating Superman’s 85th anniversary and the 45th anniversary of the release of “Superman: The Movie,” the 1978 classic starring Christopher Reeve will be screening in select theaters across the USA in April. “Superman: The Movie” will be screening from Friday, April 14 to Wednesday, April 26 at various locations. Check Fandango.com or your local theater’s website for dates and times. Some theaters have multiple timeslots across various days, but most have just the one screening on Tuesday, April 18. Jacob |

I recently watched my Blu-Ray of this, for the first time in a couple of years...and I was impressed by how well it still holds up. The performances, effects, music - it all just fits. I wish that Dick Donner were still alive to comment on this new screening, because he might have some more anecdotes to share.

now if you are not interested that is fine. we can enjoy all versions of the comic book lore. From Superman to Smallville to the current new version in 2025. in the mean time. we can enjoy the original. You don't need to insult those that like the original or other versions. Jacob |

I have noticed that at AMC, they have the running time listed as 2 hours 31 minutes and at Regal they have the running time listed as 2 hours 23 minutes.
I checked on IMDb and according to them the 2 hours 31 minutes running time is the 2000 restoration. Is it possible that Regal is showing the original theatrical version and that AMC is showing the 2000 restoration? I already have tickets booked for Regal who is also showing Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut right after it in a different auditorium. But if AMC is showing a different version I may have to rethink which version I want to see. Can anyone comment if they have already seen this new release of Superman: The Movie at AMC as to which version it was and if there was anything extra shown either before or after the movie? |

unfortunately I do not have AMC near me.
There are 3 versions that I know. The original theatre version at 143 minutes. There is a special edition at 2 hours and 31 and there is the extended cut that is on blu ray only. Which is 3 hours and 8 minutes. I have seen all 3 versions. You should be fine with the theatre version. Jacob |

![]() Sure, I hate reboots too but I’m starting to at least accept that we can’t stop them and can only watch the "right" versions. Don’t financially support them. |

Saw this yesterday along with Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut at Regal. What a tremendous time I had! It was pure joy to relive one of my most cherished childhood movie experiences. Right from the opening curtains at the beginning of the movie I got ecstatic. Then once the opening credits started with that amazing John Williams soundtrack, I got chills and I started to tear up with emotion. That has to be one of the greatest opening title sequences ever! Great performances, music and visual effects (although it can seem a bit dated compared to the CGI we have today) it still is a great achievement. This appears to have been the original theatrical cut. Overall great picture quality, but some of the scenes appeared soft and grainy, but I didn't mind. The movie had great sound with nice surround effects. There was a brief Warner Brothers 100 year anniversary segment before the movie and a very brief Warner Bros. cartoon with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and others.
After that was Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. It was my first time seeing this version and I was quite impressed. There were a few scenes from the original theatrical version that I liked that I wish were included here but still this version was practically flawless! The first movie is excellent but this movie is even better in my opinion. The flying effects seem more refined as well as optical effects. Picture and sound were both superb! There seemed to be about 20 or so people at each screening and they were the perfect movie audience: no disturbances! There were quite a few younger people there which is always a good thing to see for older releases like these! |
