I'm really excited about this announcement. The theatrical cut in 4k would have been nice, but I'll live.

I'm guessing the two audio commentaries are the same vintage French language commentaries that were included on the Canadian 3 disc Collector's Edition DVD release? If so, is there any chance Studio Canal will include subtitles? I've sadly never been able to listen to them since I don't speak French.

Interesting that Canal's UK back cover only mentions the French: Dolby Atmos track and English: LPCM 2.0. The previous Blu-rays had 5.1 tracks in German and English, although the UK disc opted for French and English in 5.1 and 2.0 only.

It will be interesting to see if the new discs are identical in the UK and Germany. The latter claims to have French Atmos and 5.1 for English and German. I just hope they haven't done an identical UK/DE encode like this:

Because that would be grossly unnecessary. The French 4K UHD has only the Atmos (with the two commentaries in 256 kbps DTS 2.0) track on 100 GB disc with a trailer, BUT Metropolitan also put the new interview with Gans and Jean-Baptiste Thoret on there, too, which is 89 minutes long. Despite this, the film still got about 79 GB of the 91 GB used. Canal are only putting the commentaries and a trailer on their 4K UHD disc, and then they are putting tons of extras (which were on DVDs in the French set) on Blu-rays in their edition, in addition to the theatrical version, which was omitted entirely from the French release.

If they're being advertised, then they should be subtitled. I think it should be the first time they're available with English subtitles. As far as I can tell, the only non-French releases to have them (excluding Canada) were in Germany.

I don't even care about the 4K disc, though it'll be fun to have it. I'll be buying this to get the vastly superior theatrical cut in HD at last!!!!!

Oh God, I just realized. I hope by "Theatrical Cut" they mean the original French/US theatrical cut, and not the dreadful UK theatrical cut, which entirely eliminates the vital "Riyal Hunter" subplot. That cut has been released on BD already all over the world.

EDIT: Phew! The running time for that cut is listed as 143 mins, that's the original French cut, not the 139 min UK cut.

I'm sure they will, but at least for now, it's not blocked to US buyers on Amazon UK, as lots of titles have been over the last couple of years.
