apart from room acoustics specs meeting THX requirements

i gather you haven't experienced the professional THX ( that's okay most haven't they think its " star wars stuff " ) of 1983 up till late or early 2000 the original THX had certain cinematic tone that even some atmos cinemas today try and rumble the auditorium , at least sensurround wasn't all in vain . THX took it and raised the bar !

i have often text chats with one of THX , he's retired

Remember the THX demo laserdisc? I played this thing so much back in the day. Still plays. Well, it did last time I had my LD player out of storage.

technics sh tx100 was partly designed by Tom Holman , he saw the picture of mine and said , wouldn't mind having that one again , its a neat design , very robust steal panels , very well constructed

it had fault volume fader wasn't working and stripping it down and manged to fix repair in less than hour , lose wire connector

i often connect it up for use , depends on the mood ?


presently none on ebay , there was two of them but , think other one must have sold

including uk , CIC/UCI high wycombe ( voted 8th best THX on the planet ) , CIC Empire Leicester Square london , warner west end london , i guess list is around '89/90 as few more THX was located at UCI solihull birmingham , planet hollywood rex cinema london , warner cheshire oaks , curzon cinema london , a few private screening rooms ?

can you get a landscape video inside , show how the presentation appears , any THX trailer , also verbalise in the video where you feel the sound on your body per scene per scene ?

saw " arachnophobia " Dolby Stereo dec 1989 morning show at local odeon screen 6 of the divided original part of screen 2 , bass was poor , stereo over the LCR was poor ( due to projection throw was narrowed to real VHS letterbox ) but i can memorise the soundtrack , how i participated with with called , " the Dolby Stereo participation " its what dolby labs discovered , no decades ago



CIC/UCI high wycombe , THX " arachnophobia " afternoon show jan 1990 , friend , i we went up there , raved it was best 8th THX on planet , he wasn't kidding ,

peeped inside , arrived late , waited for next show , i peeped i saw scene that i recall and bass at back of the cinema near entranced door , two doors to go though , it was jungle scene spiders and butterflies being put in jars , it was quiet at odeon 6 , at THX high wycombe , pressing against my body , shoes , legs jeans , body , face even my hair , ( wow i have discovered 2nd best THX , Empire being best ) but was installed by same cinema installer ex Max Bell , superman the movie , Dolby consultant formed his own company , bell theatre services , bass like that in large 400 seat and wasn't boomy , wasn't over loud on HF horns though to the surrounds , loud and exciting

play the laserdisc THX wow trailer , it with tuning a bit more than common avr auto Eq , manual Eq is where you get it right , can take days or week of tuning a lot of THX headaches lol , it should instantly be felt against your body when THX wow trailer plays , instantly , and you need the same JBL 8330 mkI mkII arrays along sidewalls back wall , otherwise smaller home speakers , well speakers are speakers , its the crossover that makes the speaker , the same JBL
it may be compromise for the front LCR , the class cheap often on ebay 4675A/C if room is wide enough with ceiling maybe 9 feet or 10 at best , my room i measured dozen times , not possible HF horns are 3 feet square , and they'd just barely fit , and i wanted five screen L Lc C Rc R , i had to install 4673A , same JBL drivers be it , 2225 or i use 2226 15" and 2445 CD with 2380A horn that i tuned down to 303Hz , bass 303Hz down to 20Hz

JBL 4645 4645C , x2 4782 TCB front middle , back of room ( additional bass baby boom Lc Rc , for star wars or close encounters ) or combo of baby boom on Lc Rc and rest of the subs and balance within spl +- 2dB tolerance of screen channels bass , 20dB hot i don't do any of that , otherwise it smear the screen channel bass with audio frequency masking

subs 120Hz down to 10Hz , bass shakers do better feel which feels like flexing your arm you feel body shaking motion , if laying on a bed and do it , bed springs give extra flex vibration , stand up and repeat same it feels opposite , do it in , rocker cinema seat feel motion vibration , i'm aware what a bass shaker should do , done dozen of tests connected to voltmeter so i can see level voltage at sine wave and bass shakers when coupled to surfaces may resonate idea is to reduce it ? bass shakers are not silent they will produce an audible sound and can play to 1KHz or full pink noise , so like a speaker

also my rocker seats have tiny , dayton " exciters " attached to seat back where seats become a speaker , it fills in missing surround gaps , i'm aware of sound frequency and there is always a missing gap between ? exciters are small easy install and also can provide bass vibration feel to the seat ,
i use them only on surround channel , bass shakers that's part of LCR of bass extension Dolby Stereo or i can set it for LFE.1 only

arachnophobia on laserdisc gives close similar , flashback in my THX cinema ,

laserdisc is flexible linear faster for quick scene sound rehearsal checks than blu uhd which is a bit slow , plus theatrical mixes better dynamic range , otherwise small discs sound small in sound , when i play " willow " dtshdma lossless audio , sounds like mixed for bose speaker ? put the THX laserdisc willow on , all the dynamics are there , and pressing against my body , bass slam to the chest , bass depth , bass kick , new films hardly buy them now , fed up with near field mixes

get some JBL professional ex used , newer models will be expensive , the earlier models often cheap , if patient you'll see them at real , fish and chips prices that's when you buy

rare THX crossover monitor , can be integrated with DSP crossover so can design to bypass and use the vintage THX 3417 , the D1138 is pain in the neck , need software m OP system to run it , i have software and D1138 , prices on it now have gone up
ultra rare original , return of the jedi , dbx 900 THX that would have been used until newer 3417 came about 1987 around willow THX/TAP time

then you'd be close to the THX flashback , anyone aged 30 hasn't experienced the original pro cinema THX , its like comparing earthquake sensurround , those who heard/felt it and recall it ? i saw that 70mm 5 times , the dvd blu its kinder of near but not , need the Mod II to actually do the same generated sound and sub array in front and two in the back corners , sense a forward backward bass sense ? that's how i recall it ,
one of the last CV sensurround recently ended up in skip maybe last sensurround cinema in uk , the speakers was hidden down false sidewall at abc 1 , bournemouth , since sensurround was phased out around 1980 and has been cleared out now , pity , most cinemas , to no day now often use other clusters of JBL subs lots of them 20 or more when showing 70mm earthquake
