3D Movies available on Apple Vision Pro
Original post: I'm watching the Apple WWDC keynote and the fact that this device supports 4K 3D is huge since 4K 3D isn't in the consumer space on disc. Any interest in this? Will it revitalize 3D? Last edited by the13thman; 06-30-2025 at 01:57 PM. Reason: added link, thanks to Cryogenator |

They spexifically promoted 3D movies while playing footage of Avatar Way of Water, and then had Bob Iger on to announce slexial collaborations with Disney.
Not confirmed, but fhis does seem loke the best chance we’ll have to see some of the unreleased Disney 3D titles. I hate when people post things like this, but here’s a post I made on this forum back in January of this year, feeling pretty good about this speculation today! Quote:

I agree but I doubt they will work on 3D TVs/Projectors. You will need to buy Apple’s (probably very expensive) headset to view them. Also you won’t be able to watch them with friends or family either.

Bumblebee is only official available for streaming on VR headsets. But, as they say… life, ah, finds a way

And if I can't play with full Atmos sound on the AVR, not interested.

How would you get the 3D information into the device? Would you have to upload your 3D movies to the Cloud and watch it that way?

Well that's the question, isn't it? Apple demoed 3D on this device and said that the displays in each eye are 4K. So while they didn't EXPLICITLY state 4K 3D, wouldn't their demo imply that? They don't have to follow the 4K spec for this to work.

This may be my OLED 3D solution. I just need to figure out how to digitise 3D and get it into the Cloud. Actually, there is an extra step, the devise would have to be able to take 2 separate images and merge them into one 3D. Currently, my TV does that when I steam it.
Apple offering 3D movies on iTunes would solve a lot of problems. |

On top of that, I’d wager that Avatar 2 would weigh in at 80+ GB in 3D. Streaming that would be impossible for the average connection. (Mine only just manages HD, plus I have a limit of 500 GB per month.) Finally, the price. It’s a proof of concept device and they know that not many will be buying it. Media companies won’t be jumping on board with exclusive content for very long, making it a rather expensive and shiny doorstop. On the other hand, Quest 3 is strongly rumoured to be HD for both eyes. If this is the case, then the software is already in place and we can be enjoying our entire 3D movie collection straight out of the box in the same resolution as the disc they came on. And it’s “only” 500 quid. Overall it is nice to see that Quest are reacting to Apple and Sony. It’s good for us consumers to have competition in the market and even better to see 3D film still supported and pushed as a main feature. Last edited by Oboler; 06-07-2023 at 11:08 AM. |
