The Road to Fort Alamo - Limited Edition Blu-ray

Quote:
Malombra Films' limited-edition Blu-Ray.

PRE-ORDERS ONLY - The film will be shipped by August 2023.

Bud and Slim meet fortuitously at a saloon and escape the arrest by the hands of the corrupted town sheriff. They join a group of Slim’s associates engrossed in planning a robbery. The two friends decide to join in; they will dress up as Federal soldiers and will collect 150.000 dollars from the local bank.

Unfortunately, the theft doesn’t go as planned and they find themselves captured by a group of Native-Americans; they are left to die in the scorching sun only to be saved by a handful of Federals. Recovering from the attack, Bud will meet Janet and the two of them will embark on an adventure across the valley of the Osage.

Mario Bava’s first spaghetti-western is a marvellous depiction of what has brought the Italian maestro to fame: a wonderful cinematography with lush colours, an exciting story of love and death in the old Wild West, inventive scenarios and marvellous performances. What more can we say?

The edition includes:

- The Road to Fort Alamo pressed Blu-ray Disc, digitally-remastered in 4K in Italian and English with Italian and English subtitles

- Extras: Two exclusive interviews

- Extras: Commentary track

- Extras: Original trailer

- Premium slipcover and cover designed by Dario Viotti

AVAILABLE FOR ALL MARKETS FOR PRE-ORDERS ONLY

Just Googled them, new Bristol-based label who also recently did The Sex of Angels it seems.

Curious about this one but will wait for reviews first. Obviously love Bava and Spaghetti Westerns!

PS: looks like their next release will be The Vampire of the Opera (1964, Dir. Renato Polselli), there's a teaser on their Vimeo page.

I had not even noticed that they already had released something. They posted a bit on SoMe last year, announcing the label and writingt about an upcoming release of The Vampire of the Opera, which, at that time, was a big deal to me, since it had never had an official English-friendly release before. Of course, in the meantime, Severin beat them to it with their Italian gothic horror themed box set.

I'd heard a rumour over on the spag western db about this coming out last year. Great to see more Bava, this one is better than Roy Colt & Winchester Jack as far as his westerns go.

The first release is quite ok, I have it, but they didn't manage to do a pressed disc in the end. This new one will be a pressed disc, though.

Have to disagree here. It`s more beautifully directed sure, particularly night scenes are impressive. But movie has too american western feel, Colt&Winchester is more interesting.

Roy Colt and Winchester Jack was rather average (even a little boring) for me, certainly for a Bava film. There are certainly far worse Spaghetti Westerns out there though!

Regardless, I would like to think this one is indeed better. Don't mind a more American Western feel as I mostly prefer those anyway - aside from the obvious classics with Clint, Van Cleef, Nero, etc.

I'm surprised they didn't include the English language version albeit 10 minutes shorter but it also uses different takes on some scenes.

The more Polselli the better. The 2 Polselli films I'd like to see get a release are:

Revelations of a Psychiatrist on the World of Sexual Perversion -An XXX Mondo-style film in which a psychiatrist explains to his students several stories of sexual deviants.
Oscenità - So filthy, even the Italians banned it.

Having said that I'd also like to see someone release Polselli's Delitto al luna park which was mentioned in the booklet of Arrow's release of Mario Bava's Video Nasty A Bay of Blood as being possibly where the Gialli genre actually began, a full 11 years before Bava's The Girl Who Knew Too Much.

Ooh, that would be interesting. It's not that I'm a superfan of gialli and slashers, but it's been interesting to go into some of their ancestry lately.

TBH For me Robert Siodmak's 1946 The Spiral Staircase felt a lot like a giallo.

Weird messaging from Malombra, a couple of weeks ago, pressing discs was delayed to end by this week and now it turns out they’re only in the middle of restoration.

Probably a couple of more months delayed then.

Exactly the kind of impression a new label does NOT want to make.

Delays happen, even to majors. But it costs nothing to keep people updated with newsletters, posts and answering emails. Which they've done sporadically at best.

I got this earlier:

Quote:
Good day all Malombrans,

I hope this message finds you well.

As many of you know, we have encountered delays with the restoration of The Road to Fort Alamo due to its status of preservation. Two out of ten rolls were unexpectedly in vinegar syndrome; a chemical reaction in which the film support deteriorates, making scanning and restoration much longer and arduous. Nonetheless, the process will be completed this week and with great results; then, we will start pressing your Blu-Rays right away. We assure you that you will receive all of your orders this month.

Thank you for all your support and understanding.

Best and Beyond,

Malombra Team
