Paramount Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later 4K UHD (1998)

Paramount will be releasing their own 4K release of Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998) in a Steelbook on September 26th .

Quote:
After faking her death and changing her name to evade the murderous Michael Myers, Laurie Strode, now a teacher at a Southern California private school, is again targeted by her nemesis. Most of the school goes away on a trip, but her son John stays behind along with his girlfriend and a couple of other kids. John is now the age that Laurie was when Michael first attacked her friends, and she is scared and seemingly over- protective. But her fears are proved right when Michael returns to town, stalking first the teens and then Lauie herself.

I assume it'll be a similar, if not the same master that was used for Shout's release in this set

It’ll be the master used on the digital 4K release, which I’m 99% sure is the same one as the Shout disc.

Edit: I really need to proofread my posts

The collection Mifunefan was the shout release. So you reiterated what he said.

Crap. The “nah” part was accidental. Multitasking has never been my strong suit… I really should not be trying to type and talk to my boss at the same time… especially if I’m not proofreading my posts.

Hopefully the UK gets it too; we’ve always been shafted with the Halloween sequels.

Paramount are doing it for the 25th anniversary of the movie, so who knows about others down the line.

This is Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later: Twenty Five Years Later, if you will

Great option for people that only want this out of the Shout collection! I pulled it from that set and sold off the rest. It's nice to have the matching slipcovers, but I would have held off otherwise.

Interesting. I'll pick this up if it includes the extras from the original DVD release that didn't surface on the Scream Factory discs. I might even do the same if they release Resurrection down the line since there are missing extras from the Scream release of that film too. We shall see.

I thought the original DVD release of H20 was barebones except a music video? I remember the first DVD release from around 2000 listed an audio commentary on the back but was not on the disc. I wonder if Universal will release their own version of Halloween 2 and 3 on UHD.

For H20 here was a music video and an EPK feature called "Unmasking the Horror." Neither of which SF licensed due to monitory considerations. But you are right, that Audio Commentary was completely false advertising.

Resurrection is missing the Rick Rosenthal Audio Commentary on the deleted scenes, the alternate endings and the Web Cam special feature on the 4K + blu ray release, although everything else is accounted for.

You never know, Universal might do their own 4K releases. They've done their own blu ray releases for the Psycho and Darkman sequels despite SF having already licensed them.

For those curious, here's every missing extra feature from the 4K releases for Halloween 1-8. EDIT: for U.S. releases only, not sure about international releases.

Halloween

1. Audio Commentary by John Carpenter, Debra Hill & Jamie Lee Curtis

Missing from the SF 4K release due to Criterion owning the track and denying SF access to it. It can be found on the 25th Anniversary edition DVD and the 2007 BD release, both from Anchor Bay. The later was reprinted for 2014 SF box set and the 2018 Lionsgate 4K + blu ray release).

2. On Location: 25 Years Later

Not sure why this was left out, but I've been told that some information is inaccurate in this feature, and it's been supplanted by the Horror's Hollowed Grounds episodes anyway. It can be found on the 25th Anniversary edition DVD and the 2013 BD release, both from Anchor Bay. The later was largely repurposed for the 2014 SF series box set [but the disc itself was tweaked to include the original mono audio track] and was also incuded on the 2018 Lionsgate 4K + blu ray release).

3. Still Gallery material from the 1999 THX DVD release and the 25th Anniversary DVD release, both from Anchor Bay.

Likely left out due to rights issues.

Halloween II

N/A - Everything accounted for

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

N/A - Everything accounted for

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

1. Audio Commentary by Alan B. McElroy

The track's moderator appears to not be on good terms with Trancas (the rights holders for the Halloween series) so it's been left off of all future releases. Available on the 2006 Special Edition DVD from Anchor Bay and nowhere else.

2. Halloween 4&5 Discussion Panel from the H25 convention

The same guy from the commentary was also a producer of the H25 documentary, so it's been left off of all future releases after a certain point. Available on the 2006 Special Edition DVD and the 2012 BD release both from Anchor Bay.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

1. Introduction by Danielle Harris & Ellie Cornell

A quick hi-and-bye from the actresses available on the 2000 and 2006 Anchor Bay DVD releases only.

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers

1. Horror's Hollowed Grounds episode

No idea why it was left off, I suspect it was because of SF cutting corners and trying to save money. Available on the 2014 SF box set bonus disc and nowhere else physically. Although it can be viewed on Sean Clark's youtube channel, Malfuncsean

Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later

1. Creed Music Video

Available on the 1999 Collector's Edition DVD from Buena Vista and nowhere else due to licensing costs.

2. Unmasking the Horror EPK featurette

Available on the 1999 Collector's Edition DVD from Buena Vista and nowhere else due to licensing costs.

Halloween Resurrection

1. Audio Commentary by Rick Rosenthal for the Deleted Scenes, Alternate Endings and the Web Cam Special feature.

The deleted scenes, alternate endings and Web Cam feature are included in the extras for the 4K + BD SF release but not the Audio Commentary for them. No idea why this all was left off since it appeared on a prior SF release but like with the HHG episode for H6, I suspect it was due to cutting corners. Available on the 2002 DVD from Buena Vista and the 2014 disc in the SF box set.

Good that it's available for anyone who didn't want the complete 6-8 set from last year.

Wonder if it'll have any of Shout's bonus features, or any of the stuff that was missing from Shout's as well.

Cliff said in the thread back in 2020 that this particularly featurette was left off because of licensing issues. I think it's the same rights holder as the H25 guy (since all of the bonus stuff was created around that time period and he was the producer), but it's curious that it was still on subsequent releases when the other stuff was not.

It's very minuscule, but the GoodTimes DVD of Halloween III featured an alternate audio track where the sound effects and music cues weren't completely identical (and I think the decapitation is also one or two frames longer). But it's nothing particularly noteworthy, imo.

The discussion panel was on Anchor Bay's original Blu-Ray release, and it was on their initial disc in 2014 box set if you loaded the disc into a BD-ROM drive. It was just completely removed from the replacement disc onward. But if anyone is looking for the bonus features from Return and Revenge, NSM in Austria has you covered. Their Blu-Rays are region free and also feature an alternate colour timing compared to the Anchor Bay and Scream releases.

But if you wanna add in bonus features from non-domestic releases, the list gets much longer, unfortunately.

I wonder if the obsessive Halloween collector in me will let me skip this release. I already have the Scream UHD, still a steel book is enticing... Still hoping we get a version with the original score someday.

Those extra TV/Deleted Scenes in full HD would be nice too.
