Default Possibly Another Rival To The PS3

Looks like Apple may enter the games console wars. I think this has been mentioned before but rumour got squashed, but this looks legit. Another console to enter these console wars, although I do like Apples products, and they may come out with a smart machine.

There isn't even a timeline. Companies file these many years in advance quite often. This is non-news.

Nothing to say, they have not been working on something already. It must be news, if it's in the news.

With the current market structure of the console market, Apple would need to ensure it has a lot of developer support immediately in order to be viable. With some developers still complaining about PS3 architecture, Apple would likely be subject to the same issues. I think that this is a filing just to protect the company's interests. It is not necessarily a sign that a console will be released anytime soon. Besides, doesn't apple need to focus on having more games released on the Mac as is?

I read a news article 2 years ago about Sony applying for patents on graphics related technologies that they thought might hit the market sometime after 2020.

If it has no timeline then it isn't news.

Ok, back on topic. There are so many elements to getting a console to market. I'm not saying Apple cannot pull this off, but like many Apple products any console would probably be overhyped, overpriced, and when compared to the competition undervalued.

Of course, this could be just apple securing their future, but for them to do this, they must be thinking about a possible console. Or this may just pass as before. Me personally, i don't think another console should hit the market. It's a ball ache as it is with games being ported over from one console to another, but it would ne interesting to see what Apple come up with.

why comment on it like its news if its not.....but I understand what you're *trying* to say.

but this is a patent to protect the future like others have said. they don't even have proper games on the ipod, iphone or the macs. a console is out of the question for them for awhile

Sweet! Hopefully, though, they'll make it out of something that doesn't scratch if you breath on it.

Well I will of course keep my PS3, but to add an Apple console?!?! That is crazy! I would support Apple (cause I am an Apple nut), but try to get it to support Blu-ray too.
It would be awesome if it did support Blu-ray, IF it ever comes to be that is.
I will keep my eyes open for more rumors...

Interesting find there.

But remember, that was back in the dark ages of Apple. When Apple clones roamed the land, and Steve Jobs was no where to be found.
After the success of the iMac, and more importantly, the iPod, i think Apple has a chance to learn from their mistakes and make a successful product. I am not sure they should enter the gaming market, but i always played with the idea. I for one will keep my eyes open on this and see if anything happens. But nothing can take away my PS3.

Besides, by the time it is out, we will probably have a PS4, or PS5.

Apple probably will get into gaming in the future. I guess the success of the Wii has gotten their attention. We will probably see something out of them in about 2 years. Also, the PS3 entertainment console concept may have a little something to do with it as well. imo

Maybe they should concentrate on getting games for Mac before making a console...

Yet you can't deny it...

There's been rumors of an XBOX portable for years.

Plus the PC-based game platform that never got off the ground (APEXtreme, Phantom).

I think they will team up with another company or buy another company out...

wasn't Apple rumored to be buying Nintendo a year or two ago?...

I think Apple buying/merging with Nintendo is the likeliest of scenario's as they could add better technology to what Nintendo already offers..
