Oh, wow! One of my favorite mini series! I have the Blu Ray but still haven't had the chance to watch it. Definitely hoping for a full cut!

Though I'm definitely curious about the deleted scenes being tracked down, and differences between the releases, theatrical and what not!

Fantastic news! The mini-series indeed has been restored in 4K by Cult Media supervised by 2nd unit director of photography Daniele Nanuzzi and was shown last March in Turin, but I can't find any sources about a 4K blu-ray release. Is there a link anywhere?

Today, at least for now, the color correction and restoration check of Franco Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth" is finished. Once all the corrections I have indicated have been made, it will be necessary to include in the project all the opening and closing credits in the various languages, the remaking of the original optical effects, the sound tracks, and then we are planning to shoot a backstage with all the people involved. Here is a phase of processing the digital restoration and color correction of "Jesus of Nazareth" 4K HDR. We are now working on redoing the original titling and optical effects. Contrary to what you might think, no any old on-scene titling is removed, we simply search ITV's archive for textless or neutral backdrops as they are also called, i.e., film footage without overlapping hand-made titles on transparencies, scan the material to 4K, clean it of scratches, dust, stains, image jumps and any other visible defects as well as stabilize it. Then you search the databases for fonts identical to those in 1977, if you can't find them as in our case you trace them by hand in Adobe Illustrator and work on them in Photoshop. Then overlaying the 25fps copy of the old edition you do the compositing in Adobe After Effects, Nuke or Fusion and maybe even correct the original errors such as Eros Lafranconi which had been spelled Lanfranconi or Giuseppe Pisciotto which came out as Guiseppe, a typical mistake by English titlists. As for the star, it was never liked back in the days of airing so we are trying to improve it but still a sampled digital grain that clones that of the original film still needs to be applied so as to blend the overall quality aligning with the 1977 look. There is more to be done but a lot....

Not only remastered but also restored. We have to re-create all original optical effects, including starfileds and comet above desert. I believe General Screen Enterprises did these shots in 1977.

Not sure if they should be working in 25 fps though? edit: I guess they didn't say that, they said they are overlaying the 25 fps old version, not that they are working in 25 fps for the new one.

This is concerning. Hopefully, there is something "lost in translation" here and this isn't turning into a Star Wars-type of situation.

As for working in 25 fps, the most important point is: Was the series originally shot at 25 fps (for European TV) or 24 fps? If it's the former, then they should be delivering a 25 fps version, but they may end up just doing a 24 fps version for worldwide compatibility, regardless.

This was made by and for italian national television in 1977 (RAI). I guess 25 fps might be right as Italy has always been a PAL country since the first day of television broadcasting.

But it was shot on 35mm film that is natively 24 fps so I don't know what they will do

I'm not familiar with Cult Media - do they release their own discs or license to boutique labels? I guess the other question is - what are the odds that this will be region free? I have the 2011 Zima Entertainment release (Mexico) but would love to upgrade when the time comes.

It might not be their responsibility as they seem to be a VFX team. Then again they do talk about removing scratches and doing color correction so they do more than VFX, but these are still post services.. Perhaps they only work with whatever is given to them.. and who knows what was given to them?

Someone can try to ask them on Facebook on their latest post as the guy seems to be replying, even in English.

They release their own disc.

Their first 4K was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but was distribuited in collaboration with Koch for their “Midnight Calssics” collection

I would love if the resurrection scene they found recently could be added into the movie but I doubt it will happen.
