Default Terrible Sequels

is it just me or does it seem like they have just been digging to the bottom of the barrel to sequel so so movies from like 10+ years ago. stir of echoes i actually enjoyed at the time but i was at blockbuster yesterday and noticed stir of echoes 2 on the wall.... along with open water 2 and whole lot more, these two stuck in my head cause seeing them made me laugh out loud in the middle of the store like a crazy person.

i like some originality, of course your gonna draw ideas from things you've scene and your gonna make a certain genre which leads to the same old same old, thats ok nothing is truly original, but i don't like this trend ive been seeing lately.

Hey, look how many American Pie movies there are. I watch every single one of them.

The last man on Earth won't be Will Smith. It will be a Stiffler.

They have been trying to make it for like 5 years now but Bill Murray doesn't get along with someone, the original idea was like Ghostbusters in Hell where New York City was in hell or something like that then there was talk about Ben Stiller being in it (very bad idea). The only way I think this gets made is if they can get the original cast back and they train a new group so they have a possibility of sequels.

There is a reason they make sequels to big movies, the studios make most of their money during opening weekends/first week (studios get largest % of ticket sales the first week and goes down each week after like 90% first week 80% second week and so on.) There have been only 8 movies to make $100m its opening weekend the only non-sequel is Spiderman.

They probably left because we left. It's not really socially acceptable to leave a movie in the middle of it, but when you see other people doing it...

What exactly did you like about the movie? I thought the acting was terrible (which amazed me considering the actors in it) and it looked like they had a $10000 budget. The monsters looked like something a bunch of college film students made. The special effects were some of the worst i've seen in years. Course films always come down to personal taste. I personally love Cloverfield, but a lot of people hate it. A lot of people hate that movie because of the camera though, which after opening night is silly. You should know before you go to that movie if that's likely to make you sick or not. >.>

Oh and a comment on starship troopers two, that movie could have been good with better acting and a higher budget. The weapons while firing looked like childrens toys with "realistic firing action!" advertised. Course, a continuation of the actual story instead of a little side story like that would have been nice. Personally, after reading the book, i'm really hoping for a true starship troopers movie. While I love the movie, it may as well have a completely different title cuz it wasn't even remotely close to the book. The only similarities begin and end with humanity fighting space bugs. Many of the characters names are used too but they're all very different from the book. Hell, in the book Rico's dad joins up, in the movie he dies in the blast. Now i'm rambling, sorry. ><

Open Water 2: Adrift isn't a sequel, it was marketed as a sequel in some countries. It's just called Adrift.

#1. Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace
I liked the first one and it ended on a decent cliffhanger, so I thought I'd rent the 2nd for $1. This was one of the worst movies I ever saw. Not only did I want my $1 back, I wanted my hour an a half back. I kept watching thinking - it's short and has to get better - It didn't. Never have I been so angry at how they screwed up a movie.

These aren't even in the same class as Lawnmower Man 2, but my runner ups are:
#2. Highlander II The Quickening
#3. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
#4. Rocky V
#5. Batman & Robin
#6. Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

I agree that there are alot of movies that need to or should have ended with just the stand alone movie. SOE was a stand alone, how they could try to make a part two is puzzling and open water, come on, the first one was the end, let it be.

Very good post here and I agree, some movies need to be left alone.

yeah the worst is when they sequel movies i like with a cheap knockoff ahem starship troopers 2, but some of the movies lately im sill wondering who thought making the first one was a good idea and how does he still have a job? american pie is sad because it went the way of national lampoons releasing movies that shouldn't get to sport the name.

Well, they've be re-releasing movies and creating awful sequels for a while now. I remember noticing the trend when H20 came out. Personally, I don't think there should have been an Ocean's 12, but there are plenty of people who disagree with me on that one.

So, do you honestly think SoE2 or OW2 have anything to do with the original films, except that the original screenwriter had sold the title rights off to the studio, a bargain-basement video producer was later able to buy the intellectual title-properties at a rights-clearance sale (or the original studio could dig it out of the vault when they had a B-loser they didn't know how to sell), and attach them to an existing spec-script that would've otherwise been "sort-of maybe" on the theme of ghosts or swimming?
If you believe that, we've got a copy of Creepshow 3 we'd like to sell you...

...Welcome to B-movies in the 00's, where the grindhouses are gone, and everything's for sale.

What are some of the best and worst sequels you guys have seen?

Best (or, at least worth watching)
Spider-man 2
Batman Begins (don't know if this qualifies as a sequel or not)
Ocean's 13 (nowhere near as good as 11, but certainly better than 12)
Pirates 2&3 (don't know why there's so much hate for these, sure #1 was the best but these are still good)
Terminator 2&3 (I think 3 has way too many haters, it's not bad)
Die Hard 3&4
X2
All Harry Potter
Batman Forever (Hey, don't give me that look)
Austin Powers 2
Goldeneye
Shrek 2
Gremlins 2 (1st is better but this one's still fun to watch)

Worst (or, at least dissapointing)
Ocean's 12
Spider-man 3 (not as bad as people say it is, but still a bit dissapointing)
Batman & Robin
Shrek the Turd
Beverly Hills Cop 3
MIB 2 (not terrible, but bad compaed to how much I love the 1st one)
Scary Movie 4

That's just a small list. What's everyone else's lists look like?

I agree that Ocean's 12 was a pathetic attempt to cash in on the success of the first movie, but let's not forget about all of the horrible Rocky sequels. The first Rocky was the only good one. I will agree that I enjoyed Clubber Lang in the third movie, but Stallone being what 5'5" and kicking all the ass that he did in the third, fourth and fifth movies. I refuse to watch the last one because of the crap that he pushed on to us after the original.

In my opinion, the best sequel I have ever seen is Godfather Part II. I am sure there are a few others, but rarely does a sequel rate higher than the original.
