Default Is 300 worth the upgrade from the standard DVD?

I'm looking at the Amazon B2G1 deal, and 300 is on there. Now, I have 300 on SD DVD, and I hear it's not much of a difference between that and the BD version. I do not have the capability of enjoying the uncompressed sound from the movie (due to incapability of the receiver), so with that in mind, is it worth the upgrade?

I have not seen the DVD but the BD is excellent. There is grain however which is intentional by the Director.

The clerk at the movie store talked me out of the 300 blu-ray (and I actually let him!), I'm betting the grain drove him nuts...

can't comment on the sound, the pq is great, the grain drove me wild but after calibrating my tv properly it is not that noticeable, if grain bothers you i advise renting first to see how you like it, but overall i thought it had great detail at 1080p.

Whats funny is the showing I saw at a DLP screening had tons more grain than the Bluray.

theres a foreign website that always pops up from time to time... It has screenshots from both the DVD and the Blu version. The BD version is obviously better. can someone help and back me up with a link?

I was really dissapointed with 300 on Blu. I have both standard and Blu. Its not worth it.

Grain is not an issue with the BD presentation, it is the director's intent!

The BD looks like the presentation that I saw in the theater.

The PQ is pretty good on 300. There's some website with comparissons to show how much sharper the Blu-Ray/HD DVD is compared to the DVD. For the people who think that it's not worth the upgrade from DVD, you may want to look into purchasing a better TV or getting yours calibrated propperly.

I just looked through three pages for three different google searches and couldn't find it . . . I know what you're talking about though, it was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the thread.

Edit: AH HAH!! Here's the thread and here's the actual site.

The difference between the two is significant, PQ wise. I haven't heard the DVD audio, but I haven't seen a Blu-ray yet that didn't completely destroy its DVD counterpart in the audio department.

I really don't know what there is to be disappointed in . . .

All the things people whine about on the BD are even worse and fuzzy on the DVD. Of course the BD looks better it is a much higher resolution. Enjoy your 300 ripped men in HD

I thought, visually, it was great. I know it's blasphemy, but I found I didn't really like the movie.

'Course, it does make you want to go out and get totally buff. But other than that....

I just tried finding that website and thread. The side-by-side comparisons were night and day; especially in the background.

Grain or no grain, the HD version has a much much better picture.

I don't get what all the fuss is about with the grain ruining a movie. The grain is there to make the film look gritty and dirty like the soldiers in battle. Along with the high shutter speed that was used, the grain adds to the action and the stylized color to give the feel of the Bronze age. I have both the DVD and the Blu-Ray versions. Get the Blu-Ray. Not just the picture quality is worth it but if you have a system that could play back the loss-less audio, it's well worth it.

These images speak for themselves!

The should put up some kind of instore display with similar images to show the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray!

Id go for it. I think the PQ is good. and the sound is great. If you are running with HDMI most likely you can run the uncompressed for this movie...
