Default Toshiba already making Blu-ray players?

I honestly don't know how true this is, but I think everyone should take a look at this...

Toshiba set to release a Blu-Ray player?

1080living.com has learned through sources in the distribution and retail business that the buzz is Toshiba already has a Blu-Ray player in the works ready for production for a September 08 release but now this has been pushed up to a July 08 release with recent events in the industry.

This would make sense as Toshiba is a major electronics giant and supporting Blu-Ray will only benefit the company in the long run. Toshiba is currently liquidating HD-DVD players for as little as $90.00 which many analyst consider to be under their cost but as demand dries up Toshiba is trying to cash in on last minute consumers that will be swayed by price alone.

One source cited 2 players are in the works with a price target of $250 and $350.00.

I'll call it rumor until I see something official. I really wouldn't be surprised though.

My thoughts exactly. Does anyone know the accuracy of this site? Would be interested in knowing if they have a history of getting accurate insider information.

Those sites are so hard to find.

Wouldn't the BDA know since they would have to acquire licenses from them?

They doesn't need to buy a license until they are selling them.
There are ways to around that.

If this is true and it is 2.0, I fully expect Lee Stewart to be contacting me about that funding assistance I promised to him a few months back. I fully expect Toshiba to be pricing their combo player at $149.99 since it has been their marketing strategy to lose money hand over fist just to take care of the consumer. You gotta love their charity work for the J6P.

Wait a second. . . I'm betting they are so shrewd that they just plan to rebrand the current Samsung models.

Anyway,

They make at least part of every PS3 which is the worlds best selling Blu Ray player. I think when they took over production of Cell processor plants it was already part of the exit stategy.

It's not like they are as enthusiastic as the delusional HD DUD fan boys are. They have had exit plans for some time now. All the price slashing of hardware is an attempt not to have to pay to recycle the stuff.

Toshiba has a number of subsidiary companies... they could have started one of them on a clandestine engineering project a short time ago (say, January anyone?) ... designing a Blu-Ray player at this point isn't rocket science... I wouldn't expect much more than a "reference" style player from them at first. Adding creative functionality (and hence value) will come in their next generation players. Right now perhaps they feel the financial pressure to simply get in the game somehow.
