Halloween Horror Month 2023

Like Michael Buble appearing every Yuletide season, or the 'Strictly Come Dancing' annual 3 month slow march on Christmas, I have risen again from the crypt for another Halloween Horror Month, attempting to watch 31 films in 31 days.

As always it's just an excuse to watch some Horror/Halloween films or TV in October, in the run up to the 31st. Personally I always try and go for 1 film per day (31 films). Obviously not possible for everyone, but fun to attempt.

This'll be my 12th year doing the challenge (my previous years complete film lists are below). Sometimes people get hung up on what qualifies for the Halloween and/or Horror theme, it's up to you if you think it fits, same as other "seasonal" films.
Just keep it varied, maybe pick certain directors, personal sub challenges/goals, eg. blu-ray only or certain years/decades. In 2019 I restricted what I watched to films of the last 31 years, and had at least one per year. The 'My Movies' app sorted by Horror genre can be handy.

If watching some Horror/Halloween films over this month sounds fun, feel free to join in. The main thing is to just have fun, whether you end up watching 31 films, or only a handful, just pace yourself and enjoy some films or TV. Re-watch some old favourites and maybe try something new.

I'll update the post below with the films I view throughout the month. I'm going to start with George A. Romero's 'Land of the Dead'.

I ready for this been doing this for the last few years and really enjoy visiting my favourite genre. I’ll be starting later today.

Glad we are making it this year as well!
I never make it to 31 films, but each year I always try to .

Most will be rewatches from my blu ray collection, but this year I've got some new additions in my collection, so looking forward to them too. And whatever I'll catch randomly on TV, movie theater and streaming.

I started today, after midnight, with this one, to get things started:

1) Knock at the Cabin.
I kind of enjoyed it. Dave Bautista was excellent. The ending was a bit "Meh..."

WAY too long but I enjoyed it enough. My favourite short was probably Second Honeymoon but even that went on a bit. 6/10.

I started the month with After Midnight (1989) a first time watch.

An anthology of 4 stories. I liked 3 of them - the wrap around story finishing the movie on a high. They had a Tales from the Crypt feel but with less gore and no nudity. There were familiar faces for lovers of 80's horror. A decent first watch and I may upgrade to the Scream Factory Blu Ray ready for next year.

The night before and finishing in the early hours of the 1st of the month I watch Night Screams (1987). Another first time watch, the Vinegar Syndrome 4K looked excellent but I found this slasher to be pretty dull.

My first time doing this.

Depending on my mood and the storm outside I’m going to peruse my lists and select a horror film off the dusty cobwebbed, blood-splattered shelves in the horror section of my collection.

(1) Island Of Dr Moreau (1977 version) Blu-ray.






and …


(2) The Crazies (2010 remake) from this 2 disc DVD






Two remakes.
Island Of Dr Moreau I’ve not seen this version for years and it was a first time watch on Blu-ray. Fab to see Burt Lancaster playing it mad cool evil.

The Crazies remake was a first time watch and I enjoyed it more than the original.

Seriously? The same directors who gave us Inside?

I decided to approach this year a little differently. Digging into stuff I haven't really bothered with, the more mainstream stuff.
I am keeping the good stuff for later in the month
