Default Universal Remotes

Are there any Universal Remotes that work with Blu-Ray players? Specifically the Sony BDP-S301? I bought it for about half price because it didn't have a remote, but little did I know that I can't find a code anywhere for about three universal remotes, and the Sony website offers no hope at all, sadly. A new remote from Sony is $62.50, so that's a last resort option. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a Logitech 880 and use it with my Sony BDP-S300.
Works great.
You normally don't need the remote, just the Model number. The codes are all stored on a server somewhere, or it will try to use the codes from a similar model.

There is a delay with my new TV (it takes a long time to change inputs,) but I am sure I can adjust that. I just haven't looked into that yet. My older sony didn't take as long.

I have a Harmony 880 as well. Terrific remote, imo. There are known charging issues with the remote, but it's worth the effort!

I use the 890 and it's a great remote. No charging issues with this one, which by the way was a problem with the remote charge tray on the 880s. The 890 doesn't seem to have this issue, at least mine doesn't. You can adjust the signal link time between components through the software in the remote desktop program that comes with the Harmony. This has been a great remote and has replaced 5 other remotes.

And i love my URC MX-810! It controls all my gear with ease and handles the BD30 like the original remote.

I decided to resell the player and go ahead and get a used PS3 from my friend. He's decided to go with the XBox 360.

The (Logitech) Harmony 880 is a great remote - I have used mine with the Sony S301 and S500. If you are patient and look hard you might find it on sale at CC or Best Buy for about $150.00. I got mine during the holidays at CC when the price matched the $150.00 price Best Buy was advertising in their weekly circular. Yeah - the 880 is three times the price plus (3X+) of the Sony unit (RMT-B101A) but you get what you pay for.

Knock-on-wood, I haven't had any problems with the charging tray or premature battery drain with my unit. Good luck.

Keith
