Exorcist Believer - $25 million
Paw Patrol - $16 million
Saw X - $13.5 million
The Creator - $7 million

For some reason, I thought Paw Patrol and Saw X were going to have better holdovers for their second week due to overwhelming positive reviews and word of mouth.

Anything under 60% is usually good, anything below 50% is usually great. It’s rare to see anything released wide do much better than 40%.

Nobody was thinking. For a few years these studios were pissing insane amounts of money away and making bone-headed deals, because they wanted to have exclusive "content" for their streaming services. That streaming bubble has now burst and those deals are coming home to roost. I very much doubt that any studio would of offered even half as much for Exorcist, this year.

They still have two more films to recoup their investment. They didn't pay for the rights for only one movie.

But that's still $133m per film before any advertising. To put it in perspective. Scream VI, Smile, M3GAN, Black Phone, and Insidious: The Red Door, would all be huge flops if they cost that much.

Didn’t Netflix pay more than that just for the rights to the two Knives Out sequels? I think the Exorcist deal was a bad one, but at least it was for the full IP I understand, so movies beyond the trilogy, streaming series, and then could use it for their Universal Studios theme parks Halloween sections and events.

What makes you think the sequels will do a lot better?
