New Line Cinema Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 4k Restoration Petition

I've started a petition to WB to grant Shout! Studios the licensing rights to perform a full 4K restoration and premium release of the original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.

Please of you love this movie as much as I do and would like to see it recieve a proper treatment as it deserves, consider signing and if possible sharing where you feel there may be interest. A week into the petition and we are up to 222 supporters. It will take a lot more, but I belive that we can see it come to life if we can show there is interest in this beloved classic and that it needs to be restored and preserved for future generations.

Thank you!!

There is a 4k restoration out there it just hasn’t been released yet, blame Warner bros. discovery.

I’ve never understood why people are obsessed with slipcovers. They won’t buy releases if they don’t have slipcovers.

I wasn't even aware that people are obsessed with slipcovers. They actually annoy me. I have just enjoyed a lot of the releases that have been put out by Shout! I had contacted them to ask if they'd ever thought about doing a release of TMNT 1990, and they replied that they have been trying to obtain the license to do so, but that WB had been disinterested in doing anything at all with it. Typically, at least on the titles I've purchased I felt they've done a good job on the restorations. However, I've also really liked a lot of the stuff put out by Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, and MVD, and of course, Criterion and of be happy with any of them handling it, however I highly doubt Criterion would care to touch it. With Arrow, I do like that the usually have reversible art with one side newly commissioned and the other the original art from the initial release.

But yeah. Nothing at all to do with slipcovers, lol.

Really?! I wasn't aware. Had it been released anywhere at all? Who did the restoration?

There is a new transfer of TMNT 1 and 2 on Paramount+ but at 1080p. Not the best HDR to SDR conversion but overall an improvement over the old HD telecine transfer.

Until we have better , I'll take what I can get, haha. Thank you, I'll check it out. I'm in Canada, so not sure it's available here, but hopefully!

Shout would be an excellent label to handle the 4Ks. Warner isn't including extras anymore, nor producing anything new most of the time. And their art direction has been terrible lately.

At least with Shout, we could expect dual format, existing and new extras, plus theatrical poster art.

For TMNT 1990 what would be extremely interesting is the inclusion of a new edit that more closely resembles what the director had originally intended before the bigwigs interfered with it.

My thoughts exactly. Shout! Or Arrow would do a great job IMO

Yes!! Man, if we could get Barron's Director's Cut, that would be amazing. Judith Hoag managed to get most of the cast and crew together on her Yiutube channel for the 30th anniversary, so you never know, he may still be interested in getting his original vision out there.

You know what would be cool for covers; the original side contains the theatrical art while the reverse side contains the original VHS covers.

Much as Shout! has made mistakes recently (which should still be corrected), I still trust them in providing us a box set of the original movies. The 2007 CGI film and a new set of the original 1987 on DVD since the Lionsgate releases are (going) OOP and Nick/Paramount has a deal with Shout! (also Blu-ray sets of the 2012 and Rise TV series).

Since SpiderNerd09 gave their idea of what they want to see in a box set:
