Blu-ray Samurai

![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone own this? I've not bought this yet but it seems to be the DC from all the release information. I have the old DVD which is the DC so I'll be upgrading if the Blu-ray is indeed the DC. Have not seen the movie before and only skipped through the blu ray, but the running time is 123:26 minutes, so it should be the Director's Cut.
Master seems to be the existing HD master provided by the "Wim Wenders Stiftung" that was also shown on German-French television (Arte) some years ago. Little bit surprised, that CG only used a BD-25 for the film (22,5 gig.) + bonus features. So, compression could be better. Italian dub (AC3 2.0/DTS-HD MA 5.1) and the English soundtrack (AC3 2.0/DTS-HD MA 5.1) are included, but Italian subtitles are forced on the English track. Bonus consists of some (short) interviews, trailers and featurettes, all in English with burnt-in Italian subtitles (except for the trailer). First (short) impression: The release does its job, but there is room for improvement (e.g. better compression and lots of missing bonus material previously found on the European DVDs). Maybe Studiocanal Germany will release another blu ray within their Wenders collection someday. But for now I am satisfied. The more Wenders on blu ray the better. So, thanks for the thread, otherwise I would have missed it. ![]() |

You're welcome.
![]() Forced subtitles seems to be a thing with CG Entertainment. I do not have many releases from the company but "John Carpenter's Vampires" had forced subtitles and if I remember correctly "Last Tango in Paris" had some as well (but the release featured an exclusive restoration). |

Go multi-region it's dirt cheap to do it although you will spend more money obviously
![]() Were it to get a Sony release in the US it would be the shorter version I assume. I suppose both are the 'director' cuts as he cut both versions (Sony had asked for it to be shortened). I've never seen the shorter version so can't comment on it. I still have the 2 DVD set of this and yes it's unwatchable in comparison however it has the 95min documentary Going Places and the 25min video diary. I've put that DVD in the homemade Blu-ray case. ![]() 2 x DVD, Germany |
