I wish they would re-release some of the OOP stuff that I missed out on, like the Chicago Quadio Box Set.

I listened to War and Gil Evans this weekend. The War disc is really good... a great surround mix and funky music. The Gil Evans was OK, but the uptempo stuff made me itch. The last two songs on the album are the only ones I'd come back to... atmospheric and nice.

Tonight I played Average White Band and Randy Newman. The AWB disc sounded incredible. It was really recorded well, and the mix puts the music all around you. The Randy Newman album sounded a bit thick with recessed vocals, and it was front focused. Not as interesting. The two big hits on the AWB album (Pick Up The Pieces and Work To Do) are both demonstration worthy. Of this batch, War and AWB are the standouts. Good Old Boys is probably Randy Newman's best album, and every song on it is great. But I think the CD sounds more balanced overall.

Thanks for the input. I received the War Quadio today.
Listening now and loving it.

Years ago, my brother and I saw War & Zapp live on New Years Eve.
This reminds me of the feeling I had that night.

I dunno, looks like I will have to start ordering all this rhino warner etc stuff to my house instead of my po box, as UPS (even their "mail innovations") sometimes has big problems with delivering stuff to the po box.

I had the first 1 show up at my po box a couple weeks ago, in a few days; the other 3 (in 2 packages) just went off the radar after hitting Fontana CA. Two weeks later, rhino was nice enough to re-ship them to my home address late last week and I should be getting them any day now, they're in town already.

Only problem is warner et all have always had the wrong sales tax rate to my home address, should be even cheaper than the po box but they charge it at least double what it should be. (Other issues make me hesitant to really bother with anything from them at all, as they pack most things so shittily stuff usually comes damaged (e.g., the 3 dead digipaks they shipped me recently in a () plastic bag). Not a preferred seller, aside from these quadios, for several years now.

Surprised no one's posted or mentioned anything about the new Joni Mitchell Quadio box set of The Asylum Albums (1973-1975) released last month.

(Made it past Fontana this time, packed pretty well in a cardboard shipping box.)

I was just about to post on here about it, as I hadn't seen anyone mention it yet. Between this and the new box set due out in June, it's a good time to be a Joni Mitchell fan. Lousy for me though, as I can't afford all these flipping sweet box sets. I'm saving up for a big thing in August ($1,5999 big and that's just the base price).

Slowly going through my email box again, like when I encountered the Joni Mitchell set a few weeks ago, and now I see that there are four more even more recent QUADIO releases:

Donny Hathaway: Extension Of A Man
Roberta Flack: Killing Me Softly
Hot Tuna: Burgers
Seals & Crofts: Summer Breeze

Also a bundle deal of the four for 79.98.

Don't forget to look for coupon codes, by the way.

I just listened to Court & Spark... WOW! This album has always sounded great, but now it's perfect. The voice is present and the drums are live sounding. I didn't realize this came with an Atmos mix. I listened to the whole album with that mix, then I spot checked a couple of songs in quad. The Atmos is very close to the balances of the original stereo mix, but the quad mix sounds quite different. Car on a Hill has directional sound in quad and a coherent sound field in Atmos. When I get a chance, I'm going to listen to more of this set. Great stuff!
