Universal Studios Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)

Quote:
You can’t keep a good T-Rex down.

Although it’s been two years since the last time dinosaurs roamed the Earth in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, Universal Pictures has hardly kept it biggest franchise trapped in amber.

The studio is deep into the development of an all-new Jurassic World movie and has David Koepp back at the keyboard. Koepp was the writer of the original 1993 Jurassic Park, famously directed by Steven Spielberg, and its sequel, 1997’s Jurassic Park: The Lost World.

The project, which has been flying under the radar, is far enough along, and the script in a well-liked shape, that the studio is whispering of a possible 2025 release date.

There is no director on board, but Frank Marshall, the veteran and celebrated producer who oversaw the Jurassic World trilogy, is back producing, as is another Jurassic vet, Patrick Crowley. Spielberg will executive produce via his Amblin Entertainment banner.

It is unclear what form the relaunch is taking. It is known to be launching a “new Jurassic era,” per sources, with an all-new storyline. That would seem to rule out the return of the characters played by Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. And it seems characters featured in the original Jurassic Park movies, played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, would not be involved.

The fact that it’s being called a new “Jurassic World” instead of “Jurassic Park” may also be telling. That would suggest that the franchise is likely not taking a back-to-basics approach but could go to parts unknown (Jurassic Space? Just putting it out there).

The Jurassic franchise is a key jewel in Universal’s film history with the 1993 original movie redefining special effects and having a long-lasting impact on pop culture. Six movies have been made over the span of three decades, earning more than $6 billion worldwide. The original Jurrasisc Park adapted the 1990 novel by Michael Crichton.

Executive vp of production development Sara Scott and creative executive of production development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.

I am begging Universal, please make it more in line with the original novel.

The 93 film held up like wet tissue paper once you read how damn good the book was.

They could Bill & Ted it, creating time travel, then trying to only use it to set up trips to when dinos were actually alive, leading to food coming to the dinos from the far future.

Tag line "If the time travelling doesn't kill you, the dinos surely will".

Just make a much smaller scale horror movie. Something simple, closer in quality to movies like Crawl or The shallows. There was a nice little short film that was released between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion and it showed so much more potential than both of those big pictures.

You don't need to spent 200 million dollars to make it good. Go back to basic.
Hire someone like John Krasinski to direct, A quiet place had more suspense than any of the three Jurassic world movies. That's what the franchise needs, imo.

Whats wrong with the original film? Its not perfect at all but does a solid job, IMO.

Sure - if they also have an actual plot, story, some semblance of logic, etc. The franchise needs this re-injected into it. The first Jurassic World was just barely OK, IMO. Since that? Yeah, NO.

A melancholy tale about the effects of isolation on a raptor in a fridge?

JP, my all time number one, my Star Wars. Yet this news just does nothing for me.

Compared to the novel, it is extraordinarily neutered. A lot of the actual message of the novel is thrown out the window for the sake of meh spectacle.

The book is superior and makes the movie look like someone did an amateur job at adapting it, and I'm someone who always enjoyed the movie and only read the book after seeing the movie countless times.

Some of the stuff they had written for Attenborough is down right stupid compared to the book, like the whole Scottish backstory.. who pulled that one out their butt?

There’s a reason the movie still holds up as a classic. Spielberg made it accessible to kids as well, which was a smart move. Hell, that’s when most of us fell in love with it.

The book couldn’t be adapted as it was in 1993. Hell, the book still couldn’t be adapted as is in 2024.

The two can be separate and great in in their own medium. The book works as a book, but the movie works like gangbusters as a movie.

The spectacle in Jurassic Park changed people's lives (as in, folk actually became filmmakers because of it) and the industry. It isn't meh.

The original Jurassic Park is FAR from just "ok" or "meh". It's an amazing blockbuster from a filmmaker at the top of his game and changed the industry forever. Just because it's not a faithful adaptation of the book does not make it a lesser movie.
