A floating head design, how unusual. Never seen that before

I hope WB ports all of the features from the Blu-ray onto the 4K.

Anyone know if this is a retailer exclusive, or will be available widely?

Hmmmm. I have the regular blu-ray steelbook which is much better. I might just get the regular edition and drop the 4k disc into the old steelbook.

However, all blu-ray releases omitted the "Scorsese on Scorsese" feature from the limited edition DVD. I hope we can get that back! It probably won't be as the blu-ray disc that will be included with the new 4k disc will probably just be the old blu-ray.

Exactly what I was thinking! Damon looks like a German SS officer on that cover.

Horrible design

Artwork could have been better, but given it's coming from WB, certainly could have been a lot worse too. Will have to wait and see what the standard 4K release looks like.

Excited for the 4K disc. I’ll stick with my previous steelbook that I added my own interior artwork to. It’s been hungry for a 4K disc for a while.

EDIT: Just checked and I never got around to doing that artwork. I have a new project now.

It's been a while since I've seen this, so maybe my memory is failing ... but why is there a giant X across the front cover? What does that represent/refer to?

It was a visual cue that Marty put into the film.
[Show spoiler]Any time there was a letter "x" in the same frame of a character, it meant that character would bite it.

Scorsese was referencing the original Scarface where character deaths were telegraphed by an "X" appearing somewhere. If my memory serves me correctly,
[Show spoiler] Bois Karloff's character gets a bowling strike just after dying, marked by an "X," naturally.

I'm so grateful and thankful how much money I've saved off of awful steelbook designs the last couple years.

More money saved here. BluRay steel is far superior IMO.

I keep seeing everyone reference the blu steelbook for this and I am not sure its much better, if at all. The UK version isn't even great.
If this version fell to the $20-$25 range it'd be easier to accept the lazy artwork.

This design makes some other SteelBook art I've criticized in the past look good.

With some covers it was obvious to me that the designer (or the person giving them the creative brief) only knew about one famous scene that didn't necessarily reflect the movie (Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are good examples of that).

I guess with this one they haven't watch the movie and don't have that one scene everyone knows about, so just put some faces on there.
