United Kingdom The Body Stealers (Tigon Collection) (88 Films)

Pre-order: Amazon.co.uk
Release date: 13th May, 2024

Quote:
When paratroopers begin to go missing during routine jumps, investigators are sent to shed some light on the mystery. However, things get complicated very quickly when an alien invasion plot is discovered. This little-known 60s British science fiction flick from the Tigon, the company that bought us Witchfinder General, The Sorcerers, and Blood on Satan’s Claw, offers a uniquely UK take on the flying saucer phenomenon. Featuring George Sanders (Village of the Damned) and Maurice Evans (The Planet of the Apes), it’s a must for all collectors of cult classics from good old uncanny Britannia.

Yeesh! If ever there was a tester of the words “they’ll bring out any old crap on Blu-ray now”, this is it!

Also, no Neil Connery on the cover? What a Swizz.

Very reminiscent of the Hard Crime Case bookcovers, which I love for the most part.

I've always quite liked this touch of hokum!

Anyone know what ratio they'll be presenting this in? Will it give more or less picture area than the old Tigon Collection coffin DVD?

It should be 1:1.75 as that was the usual British cinema ratio for "flat" films of this era.

But 1:1.66 or 1:1.85 would be fine. There was always a bit of leeway.

So far, I'm down for buying Witchfinder, Blood, Beast and Hannie. All highly entertaining films, ranging from the superlative to the very good. I feel, irrationally, like I don't want to miss out on this one, The Body Stealers, given the lacunae it'll be in my wee Tigon collection to be.

But I've seen The Body Stealers, and - being frank - it's a bad film, and not in the 'so bad it's good' kinda way. In fact I found it difficult to sit through, I was so unengaged.

So, what are folks' thoughts? Let's, between friends and all that, be honest: are you gonna buy The Body Stealers just to avoid a gap in your Tigon collection to be? Or are you going to avoid it, because you don't suffer from completionism, and don't care that it'll be a cleft in your newly-branded, beautifully slipcased, fresh and sparkly scanned, collection? We're all friend here, let's be honest...

Myself? The sirens' song of completionism is singing to me from the rocks of irrationality, lol. And I'm a small bit embarrassed to admit that Still, I think I'll give it a miss.

But what about you?

I’d possibly buy What’s Good for the Goose to complete a Tigon collection, but I quite like The Body Stealers, so will happily be preordering.

It’s not a good film, but it’s amusing British tat and if I get bored I can look around the frame at the decor, the locations etc, like I did with Zeta One.

Agreed. They look like pulp novels you would pick up in an airport or petrol station. Love them

It's not a favourite but it has its charm, more and more so as the Britain in these films disappears into the past. I probably would never have watched the DVD again but buying it on Blu will give me good reason to, especially if it's uncut.

All these Tigon releases are so beautifully presented that my completionist urges are pulling me towards buying Witchfinder General despite being very happy with my Mediabook edition.

Famously one of the films MST3K had and tried but really struggled with, so they binned it off.

Wasn't there something online somewhere about this having a longer version than the one included in the Tigon coffin box dvd set? I don't know if that means there's two cuts on here, or not. Either way, I'm quite partial to this film; it's technically rubbish, but if I can enjoy repeat watches of Slaugherhouse Rock, I'm sure I'll be fine with upgrading this from the iffy dvd.

88Films probably bought up the rights and thought:

Yes, it is finally going to be uncut, though with the film still rated PG it's not like we are talking hardcore sex and violence...

I got this confused with another film called the night caller with John Saxon in it which as sort of the same story line and that was set in the UK.
