Japan Deadpool & Wolverine 3D Blu-ray (2024) [Region Free]

Moderator note: Deadpool & Wolverine was only released on 3D Blu-ray in Japan, in a combo pack with the 4K disc and a 2D Blu-ray. The discs include English audio and optional subtitles for the film. Despite being marked as Region A, all of the discs in the set are REGION FREE. All discs have a fixed 2.39:1 aspect ratio with no IMAX scenes or frame breaks. Amazon Japan have an exclusive steelbook and editions that come with various gubbins. The film was not released on 3D Blu-ray anywhere else in the world.

Amazon Japan are currently not allowing international orders for this item and many others (see below) and this is likely to continue indefinitely but the standard edition can be be bought from other retailers.

Deci note: But.. as of October 1 2024, now other, previous Movienex titles that could be ordered from Japan to outside of Japan, can't:

So, prior to October 1, Disney was still the distributor of its own Blu-rays and DVDs in Japan. Beginning October 1, distribution rights switched over to Happinet. Happinet titles can't be shipped internationally from Amazon Japan. Mystery solved.

Glad to see that this is getting the 3D treatment despite the R rating and the fact that the previous Deadpool films weren't released in 3D. Gotta admit I was slightly scared when the Indian teaser didn't reveal any format details. Here's hoping this gets a 3D Blu-ray release from Japan as usual.

Here's the teaser if you haven't caught it yet:

No jinx required. This is NOT a MCU movie. It is Fox. So no bluray...unless the strong sales of the Avatar films make them feel otherwise.

It is an MCU movie I think, but so was Spider-Man No Way Home so it's not an issue of whether it's in the MCU or not.

Ultimately if it's going to be distributed differently in Japan to The Marvels then the odds of a 3D blu-ray go right down.

Yes, Deadpool and Wolverine are Marvel. Not Fox.

20th Century Fox previously held the movie rights to Deadpool, Wolverine, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. Similar to how Sony has the rights to Spider-Man and Venom. Yes, they are Marvel movies, but the distribution rights are (or were) owned by Sony and Fox.

Now that Disney has acquired Fox, it remains to be seen how they will distribute these movies. They might treat them like every other Disney-distributed Marvel movie (which would increase the likelihood of Japan MovieNEX 3D releases), or they might keep them under the 20th Century Studios banner (less likely to get a Japan 3D disc).

I highly doubt they’ll put this under the 20th Century Studios banner. This is 100% an MCU movie and you know they wouldn’t have done anything differently with Spider-Man if they weren’t forced to legally. They could do it to protect the Disney brand, since AFAIK no R-rated films have been released under the actual “Disney” banner, but they don’t put the Disney logo in front of MCU movies anyway, just the Marvel Studios one.

Edit: And even if it is 20th Century, we did get Way of Water on 3D Blu-Ray… but James Cameron would’ve made that happen regardless

Namedropping is what Deadpool does so I take no stock in that but the logos are a good sign.

The teaser trailer includes a tiny logo at the end for 20th Century Studios - bottom center 2:23 mark.

Good catch. Well, there's our answer: this will be distributed by 20th Century Studios, which pretty much rules out a MovieNEX release. I'd say chances of a 3D Blu-ray release anywhere are very slim. But I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks. That is shocking news to be honest, but very good to see Marvel still cares about 3D enough to make an R rated Deadpool into 3D. Now only if it gets a Japan blu ray 3D release to import, that would be something if Deadpool Wolverine has medium to strong 3D. Could be great!

I hope Marvel's Blade reboot is also R with 3D too.

Damn. Good eye, but bad sign for us lol. Although if I’m being honest, I didn’t really even expect this to get a 3D theater release, so if that does wind up being it, I’ll be grateful just for that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney makes the 3D version available on the Apple Vision Pro…complete with 4k & HDR!

Hopefully Deadpool fans want to support the film in 3D, and theaters offer a lot of 3D showtimes for Deadpool 3. Wolverine in his full yellow/black/blue costume will be a first for a live-action Marvel movie, considering in the X-Men films, that was never presented and he mostly only wore a team X-Men outfit or regular clothing. This one, he'll hopefully have the mask on, like Deadpool wears his mask much of the time. Producers/directors tend to want to show the face of the actor, so it'll be interesting to see.

For the 3D, plenty of slow-motion moments that can really shine in strong 3D for Deadpool 1 and 2 if they offered it back then, and hopefully for Deadpool & Wolverine 3D.

Good point that Disney doesn't show their logo before the Marvel logo. This being an R rated movie is even more reason for them to not put Disney in front.

Regarding James Cameron, unfortunately before Avatar 2 was released in theaters and then on blu ray 3D, he stated in his interviews that he was not concerned with the home 3D market, and that he was one of the few who watches 3D at home, but his only concern was presenting 3D in the best way possible in theaters. Then also considering Fox's deal in 2010 to bundle the Avatar 3D blu ray only with a very expensive Plasma Panasonic 3DTV back then. Cameron not having any say in that it seemed.
