Question Get free Blu-ray discs for buying an HD-DVD player

Last week I saw someone at Walmart exchanging a player and discs they bought at Best Buy. I guess they got 5 discs free. The player had a yellow BB "ZONE" sticker on it and all they had to do was say, they purchased it at WM and lost the receipt and wanted to exchange for Blu-Rays. The cashier proceeded to get their drivers license, scan the items and give them a couple WalMart cards worth over $300!

So they basically earned $100 in WalMart store credit off the free movies for use on groceries or whatever by buying an HD-DVD player for $199!

Lucky break, I doubt this is a common practice.
