I think Batman Beyond is one of the most ripe versions of Batman to do in live action, but i wouldn't mind an animated version at all, but i just have reservations about using the same art style as Spider-Man did and getting called out as a copy cat.

The original Batman Beyond did have a much more neon soaked night skyline, so the colour palette in that picture does really pop, but i do hope they'll tweak it enough. Of course, i'd prefer to see a live action within the next 15 years if possible.

I think I'm the only person alive who thought Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker was off-putting and pandering to a youth male market. If they can bring this film in under $5 million, go for it. But $25 and up, yeah, that's a hard pass.

Yeah. Considering BB had its own unique form. Would be best to just go after what made BB... visually BB and animate that in a new way.

What do you mean pandering to a youth male market? I sort of remember that movie but not in a way that would be "pandering" either.

Back in the '90's, studios went and market-tested ideas and concepts and even movie titles to teen males in malls. It's why Armageddon was made, there was no movie or story, but young males indicated they would be more inclined to see a movie called Armageddon before any of the other titles in the sample. That's a true story. The entire film Armageddon was reverse-engineered from market testing a movie title.

Look, young males want to be seen as adults, hence they gravitate to concepts such as "dark and violent", confusing that with adulthood when in reality "dark and violent" films are sometimes more stupid and childish than the films they were allowed to see before puberty hit. Young teen males used to be the primary market for film audiences, it's why Disney had such an ongoing losing battle trying to get that market with Tarzan, Atlantis, and Treasure Planet, and why they're so focused now on middle-aged females and tween females.

The Disney cheapquels were aimed at a tween market, hence why so many of them sported the offspring of the leads from the original films, or like Bambi 2, covered his tween years. Marketing. Batman Beyond is about what? A new Teen Batman in a future dystopia. Teen Batman. Marketing.

"But Peter Parker and Miles Morales."

Legit counter-argument, which proves you bring your game to any character at any age, you can make magic.

I've only seen the uncut version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. I didn't care for it, it was punch-drunk silly on one hand then tries to be A Clockwork Orange with the other. The actual animated series that aired seemed to know their lane, the movie felt uncomfortable, using content choices that seemed dramatically out of place with the silliness proceeding it. But, hey. It moved units.

Waiting now for "old man yells at cloud" and Clint Eastwood gifs. As I said, I think I'm the only person on the planet with that opinion. Maybe I should give that DVD another spin. I just didn't care for it the first and only time I watched it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armage...20with%20Earth.

Weird that none of that is mentioned on the wikipedia page. The page actually has a different story about the inception of the movie.

Well, it's Wikipedia. Not exactly a deep well of truth in certain circumstances, is it, especially when egos get involved (politics, sports, religion...movies).

Oh, by the way, if you're stupid enough to divulge story ideas over drinks at lunch with a studio exec, you've got problems.

The Armageddon story is true. But other things can also be true. Dreamworks and Disney were inside each other's *******s from A Bug's Life/Antz to Spirit/Home On The Range.

Premiere Magazine. Sorry, can't tell you what issue. Disney reverse-engineering a movie based on market testing movie titles tends to leave an impression.

To the credit of Wikipedia, often times there are citations to the evidence for X, Y, Z claim you can go read to verify. True its not 100% a bastion of accuracy but rather reliable on a cursory glance.

Also, why would Hollywood go out of its way to reverse engineer a big budget movie asking male teens what they want to see when we all know, they're not exactly a single group of massive disposable income. It literally wouldn't make sense and what you said wouldn't have worked out unless it resonated with other demographics too.

So whilst Twilight has a "Tween" type demo to primarily target and they were bigger budgets, they also tried to hit others who were more than likely to bring in the box office.

Personally i like Armageddon overall as a movie. Just not sure i fully agreed with your assessment of teen male choices.

I read "Spider-verse style" and immediately thought multiverse. I'm hoping I'm wrong though. Does Spider-verse Style just mean choppy framerate?

Which is totally fair. I'd have to unpack a whole lot of baggage to really explain where I'm coming from, and you don't need that, neither does the community. As I said, it's just a single opinion of a certain movie.
