Holland (ALEC GUINNESS) is a shy, retiring man who works as a bank transfer agent for the delivery of gold bullion. One day he befriends Pendlebury (STANLEY HOLLOWAY), a maker of souvenirs. Holland remarks that, with Pendlebury’s smelting equipment, one could forge the gold into harmless-looking toy Eiffel Towers and smuggle them into France. Soon after, they gain the services of professional criminals Lackery (SID JAMES) and Shorty (ALFIE BASS) and the four plot what they believe will be the perfect crime – which turns out to be anything but!

Don’t want to be the contrarian here and it’s purely a personal opinion but this comes nowhere near those two. I think it’s that I find Stanley Holloway a slightly annoying presence amongst other things.

Maybe Svet has to adhere to a deadline when it comes to early screeners. He could have also simply been in the mood to watch the film as soon as he got it - after all the BD is evidently fantastic and after Ladykillers and many other Studiocanal-Silver Salt Restorations likely FiM-encoded as well.

I’m anticipating that’ll be the case, as it was with The Ladykillers, but it would be nice to get it confirmed.

As much as I love this film, it’s hard to justify extra expenditure for nothing other than a box which takes up a bigger space on my shelf and proclaims how much I love the film as I’m willing to pay more for that disadvantage.
