I picked up a budget-priced Wbacon burner (External Blu-ray Drive, USB 3.0 and Type-C Blu-Ray Burner) and for my first few burns it worked fine using Cyberlink Power2Go. For some reason now it consistently craps out on me (sometimes immediately, sometimes after making me wait a couple hours) with a Power2Go message that the burner doesn't work or the disc is corrupted (and this is with clean blank 25GB BD-Rs).
This has happened most recently while trying to burn a 1,725,500KB MOV file, even though I'd been able to burn comparably sized files when I first started using this burner with Power2Go. My questions are: Is there something I can be doing to "reboot" this burner to get it working again? Or... What's a reliable and fast burner I should consider? |

Pretty much all disc drives I encounter in computers are made by one of the major drive manufacturers (Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology, Hitachi-LG Data Storage, LITE-ON, Panasonic, Optiarc (formerly Sony), Pioneer, etc.) Any external units you find probably contain a drive from one of these manufacturers.

I had problems with 8GB dual-layer DVD burners in my computer (internal SATA) using mainly Roxio CD & DVD burner. They would work fine initially but began to produce errors and bad discs after a few months of use, requiring (I thought) replacement. I checked online and one user said to change burn speed from 'max' to 1.0. This did slow down the process a bit (speed dropped from 6X to 4X) but the errors vanished and it's been all good since. Note I've also had a 22GB blu-ray burner in the same machine that has always worked great set to 'max' burn speed. Hope that info can help you...

A Couple of suggestions...
1) Use Imgburn for your burning software when possible. I use this when burning all of my BD-R's as well as whenever backing up data. It is stable, simple and easily the best burning software online. It's also free. 2) If your burner is giving errors, try unplugging it from your usb port and then plugging it in and restarting the program. (Assuming you have an external burner). I on occasion have I/O errors when attempting to burn a BD-50 disc but these occur before the disc actually has any data written to it typically and so exiting the program, unplugging the USB connector and then reattaching typically corrects the issue immediately and since the disc didn't have data written to it, I can still use it. 3) I recommend This Pioneer drive. It's top notch quality, has firmware that is compatible with Libredrive and should work well for a long time. It's very rare I have a bad burn these days. I can't recall the last time I ruined a disc and truth be told I burn well over 100+ BD's a year. |
