I watched the thing for the first time a couple days ago. I was kinda disappointed. I'm sure the monster looked great way back then, but by today's standards it looks like crap. I think that movie would have been a lot better if they mostly only caught glimpses of the monster instead of showing the whole thing running around all the time. That movie must have 8 minutes of monster footage in it.

Guilty as charged. I want them all. I even want Darkman. The Thing was way back in 82 so the creature effects won't come close to todays standards but so what. Its a great flick with a great cast, and Universal did the transfer proud on the dud, so I want.

I tell ya even by todays standards, this is one of THE scariest movies ever IMHO. The whole deal of it being able to infect any living critter on the planet just psyched me out. Way back when, I stayed drunk a whole weekend and watched this movie over and over and over and never got over it, thank goodness I joined AA.......

I'd double dip on Heroes, S1. Also would love to have the first Jurassic Park, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, Van Helsing...

The special effects in John Carpenter's The Thing were light years ahead of the horrible effects in I am Legend. The cannibals looked comical and downright goofy.
