bluray-disc.de does NOT mention English subtitles (only German HOH). Do you have any other source for that?

They did though. And yes, they are notoriously inaccurate.

Got my copy today and cannot complain about the 4K Steelbook.

The 4K restoration looks amazing by the way!

Here´s my unboxing.

Is there English subtitles? Ordered this for Me in UK but then remembered there are parts where they speak in Latin and just wondering if the English subs are provided for these sections?

I think it's already confirmed there are no English subtitles, which is bizarre.

Actually it's almost fitting to the theme of the movie that in 2024 this would get released in France and Germany without English subtitles, as a forbidden work of art.

I just checked the 4K UHD and there are no English subtitles available!
Every other information to be found on whatever website is wrong.

I'm about to snatch the standard 4K disc that was released a couple of days ago. At 23 eur at amazon de, the price is reasonable. I've only managed to find one comment about the pq, above. Would be good to know how it compares to the French release. Its pq gets praise in the other thread, and it will get a standard 30 eur release in a month. Forced subs makes me want to skip it, though.

The transfer is the same on the French / the German, but the French discs have a much better compression.

Thanks - that's surprising since apparently the German release is by the same company that did the restoration (Constantin Films). Why would they use lesser compression? Still, forced subs is such a monstorsity that I'll probably get the DE version in any case.

There's no guarantee that the company that do the restoration will be better at authoring the disc, since it depends on who they hire to provide the compression. We see it all the time with bigger studios as well, Paramount being an obvious example. But I agree that you would think that they should care enough to make sure that the actual product (the film on the disc) is up to standard.
