Yes they are. The only fault of them is that the Cantonese audio has new awful sound. effects and the subtitle translation is not that good.

Absolutely, the sound is atrocious but you'd think from the pile on, there was some holy grail uncut version out there everyone is hoping for.

I won't be getting this as I find it is one of the worst offenders for visible wire work, something I love when deployed judiciously. I can't recall seeing any other movie contain as much visible wire.

I thought that the credits either at the end or beginning of the DD release were English credits! And for some reason I remember there being an edit in there somewhere. Of course, new sound effects and not including the original cinema audio is still “cut” in my opinion. And as much as I hate animal cruelty, if it was in the original film then it should remain. I hate censorship too.

Yes, the credits were English, but they were not some newly created bullshit with new music like with FIST OF LEGEND, BLACK MASK or CONTRACT KILLER.

Not to open a can of worms, but interesting the Bey Logan commentary isn't carried over because he's cancelled but the Brett Ratner extra is fine.

Normally I give away my Blu-Rays to a friend if I upgrade to 4K but I think I'll hang on to
the Cine Asia release for the missing extra.

All that Brett Ratner/Elvis Mitchell/Quentin Tarantino/RZA/David Chute stuff from Dragon Dynasty was boring, mostly misinforming, fanboy talking crap anyway. Why 88 even bother to port it over is beyond me.

Against my better judgement, I did end up getting this as an "upgrade" to the awful spiky foley track on the Cine Asia DVD but the audio sync on this release is terrible. It's going straight back for a refund; unwatchable

Do you use a Panasonic player? If so, it is believed that the sync is a player-specific issue. The disc plays fine on my Oppo 203. Others have reported the same in the 4K thread. If you happen to have a different player, give that a shot.

I am finding that some discs (in general) have perfect audio sync, yet others require an adjustment. Strange.

No its LG and I've never had an issue before. But I will test the blu in a Sony tonight.

UPDATE: Yep, the audio sync is present on the Sony and side by side comparison with dvd really underscores the issue. While the dvd is very badly mixed (2.0 and 5.1), it's perfectly in sync throughout. The 88films release has the audio milliseconds ahead so it's very bothersome. Impacts are heard before the occur, lip sync is off too of course but that's not as noticeable as one is used to the vagaries of ADR.

Am I right in saying 88 are not going to fix this and there'll be no exchange program? Anyone who compares this to the prior dvd will not claim it's just the usual "loose" dubbing common with HK movies. Are some people saying it's player-specific and their one is playing fine? In that case I urge them to check the knee tap scene where it's more obvious than on the busy sight scenes. Another example is the sound preempting when Jet Li is jabbed with the sword during the Yeoh rescue. I'd love to keep the set but I will have to return for a refund as it'll never be watched again with these issues on both included discs. I'd rather watch the dvd.
