As they delve deeper, the investigation quickly turns perilous, as the pair find themselves entangled in a dangerous web of secrecy and murder, putting their lives at risk as they get closer to the truth.

DiabolikDVD posted on X that they will not carry the Umbrella release as a domestic (US) distributor has asked them not to due to an upcoming release. Curious who this will be.

Who are the US distributors for this and why the **** are they trying to run a cartel? Just makes me want to get the Aussie release a little bit more.

My guess is Severin since they remastered and released other titles from the same rights holder (Video Mercury Films). Odd Umbrella are releasing this first since these remasters premere in the US. Maybe this was not done by Severin but a different entity and that the US one will be a different rrstoration alltogether?

I have not seen this since I rented it on VHS almost 30 years ago. I remember it to be a very good movie and I will buy this release (or the US release if that sounds like a better deal).

Hmm Severin vs Umbrella in an encoding battle to the death

Now THAT would be interesting!

I adore this film (and Amenabar's subsequent "Abre Los Ojos"). I wonder how this new edition will compare with the recent Spanish BD. The film has a rough look, so I am not expecting miracles. Not sure this needs an UHD release, in all honesty, but would love to be pleasantly surprised.

I have the restored Spanish blu and unfortunately it has some serious compression issues. The grain looks very spazzy. You have a frame that looks great, then the next three or four are really bad. And so on.

But yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath for Umbrella to have a good 4K disc either.

Have they released a good 4K disc that isn’t just a direct port of a disc from a better studio/label? Last i read Razorback had its fair share of issues on their 4K disc release.

Umbrella's recent 4K discs are actually pretty good, other than the fact that the initial couple 4k releases had a (corrected) distortion issue and were taken from SDR masters. After getting past those initial issues though they've delivered some solid 4k discs such as the 4K HDR of Dead-End Drive-In using a cut of the film not seen since VHS. Their Possession 4K disc also was very good, again sourced from an SDR master - which is fine given the official 4K restoration was SDR. Believe they are the first label to do an English-friendly version of the JSA 4k master also.

That being said they still aren't top notch in consistency, they are kind of like Severin where you get some discs that look nice and others not so great.

Never seen this but preordered it based on the Director’s overall filmography. I hope they do Open Your Eyes next. Seen it multiple times and each time I’m mesmerized.

i've seen both. tesis isn't as sophisticated, it's a little more mainstream in style, but it's got an unusual subject matter for such a film. very much worth seeing, and i always waited on BD worth buying. open your eye is another level altogether.

I blind-bought this from Umbrella and it arrived today, very well-packaged (wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in a box). Hoping to watch this weekend!

Anyone else get theirs who can comment on how it looks yet?

Heard it has the same issue as CALIGULA release that the audio on UHD disc was encoded into lossy Dolby Digital.

Correct. Both the 5.1 and 2.0 mixes are lossy. Not even higher bitrate lossy , but basically what you would get on a DVD.

Look's great, the grain resolve nicely, pleasant colors & dynamic range.

Huge gap from the previous ugly bluray.

Umbrella has decided officially they are not fixing this. The current UHD will not have a replacement program.

Uhh, if that's their attitude, I'd rather support the American cartel.
