Default Hdmi=hdcp???

Hi guys.

I just found this forum and I would extremely appreciate it if someone could help me out with this issue:

A few weeks ago I bought a Sony VAIO laptop with blue-ray. Then, I bought a projector (Epson 1705 powerlite), which didn't support High Definition playing, since it didn' have an HDMI input. I took it back and I bought a Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi HC1500 1600 Lumens 720p 16:9 HDMI Home Theater), for which the salesman ASSURED me that would play Blue-Ray movies from my laptop.
A few hours ago, when I had everything ready to watch a BD movie with my g/f, the f..... computer showed the same msg was shown with Epson projector: "Your display environment does not support protected content playback" (the movie comes out properly on my computer though - once I connect the projector stops and I see the previous msg).

Please, can you tell me if I need to try sth else, or this msg means that my projector, even if suports HDMI does NOT support HDCP?

Thank you in advance for your help...

A

Well this is a new model it's surely HDCP. My AE500 from 3-4 year back was HDCP...

Thank you my friend. I was about to return the projector (for 2nd time!) today.
Let me please ask you, do I need to connect ANY OTHER (ok, I don't mean the AC adaptor ) cable except for the HDMI cable between my laptop and my projector?

Thank you for your help!

Yes. I can watch those (Blue-Ray) movies on my laptop. Once I connect the projector, the disk stops and that error msg appears on the screen.
Today I returned the projector and on Wednesday I'll have a new one (BEnQ MP730), which, according to any website I saw, does support HDCP. I'll tell you on Wednesday my fiend.

Thanks, anyway!

To replay protected HD video, you need a source and a display that will process at least 720p and 1080i video, and most importantly, either HDMI or DVI connections that both support HDCP.

So it could be that your PC has (presumably) a DVI output that doesn't support HDCP. That seems unlikely though, if you can play BDs on the PC screen itself.

HDMI, by the way, doesn't have to support HDCP. According to the HDMI spec, HDCP is optional but recommended. In practice, any manufacturer would be mad not to incorporate it, and I believe they all do.

It maybe the cable. If the output is DVI from the computer you will need a converter, it maybe the adaptor / cable is not DVI-D. These are rare and utterly useless but I have seen a few around.

How did you set it up, I never did this personally, but I THINK you might have it in dual monitor set-up and that could affect HDCP. Try making sure the projector is the only 'monitor' being used when playing a movie.

Hi guys.
Well, my computer has an HDMI output (I just bought it). As far as the screen, I tried all the options (display settings) form my vaio. But finally didn't work.
"Welwynnick" is definitely right: HDMI doesn't mean HDCP. If the device doesn't clearly say "supports HDCP", it's not implied that it does. Today I'll have my new projector and I'll tell you.

By the way, yesterday I used that projector with a regular DVD and its quality is great. Compared with Epson powerlite 1705 (which I had first), that Mitsubishi has a wonderful quality.

Man, I also THINK you are right. Because with my new projector (BenQ) the same message appeared! That doesn't support HDCP, you believe it? And then, when I switched to ONLY the projector as a monitor, everything properly worked! I had to read carefully your post, instead of trusting the idiots from SONY!!! They have no idea what's going on with their computers! I chatted three times with three different guys and all of them told me IMMEDIATELY that my projector doesn't support HDCP (since that msg was presented). Nobody told me anything about dual monitors...
Now, I took back the BenQ, which is a really BAD projector, and I ordered again the Mitsubishi, which is a really awesome one! Its colors are so brilliant, so real. The difference between these two projectors is unbielivable. It's so huge, that I don't care any more if Mitsubishi supports or not (even though I think that finally does) HDCP.
Afer about a week I'll have back the Mitsubisgi and I'll tell you if plays Blue-Ray or not.

Thank all of you guys.

I run into that issue A LOT at my job, with DVD playback through laptops, and also some video clips embedded in powerpoints. If you have the Laptop screen on and the projector output on, you see a blank area on the screen and the movie on the laptop. Somehow they think that the LCD panel and the external output allows for, I dunno, Piracy?

It's the dumbest thing ever. I could see disabling analog output, but...

the projector does, the problem lies in your laptop (or rather its HDMI output). I suggest you purchase an external blu-ray disc player.
